B / Put the following into indirect speech (questions)

Note: some questions can be dealt with as requests

1. “Where are you from? “


He asked Tom where he was from.
2. “Did you finish your exercise?”
The teacher asked his students if they had finished their exercises
3. “Who has been using my typewriter last week?”
She wondered who had been using her typewriter the previous week.
4. “Do you mind working on the night shifts?”
The employee asked the employer if he minded working on the night shifts.
5. Would you like to come with us?”
They asked me if I would like to come with them.
6. “Are you working as well as studying?”
The lady asked Ashley if she was working as well as studying.
7. “Have you got a work permit?”
The police man asked the driver if he had got a work permit.
8. “Will you have time to play regularly?”
The coach asked Leila if she would have time to play regularly.
9. “Which of you knew how to make this food?”
She asked which of them had known how to make that food.
10.“How can I run this engine?”
I asked the worker how I could run that engine.
11.“What else did you see?”
I asked the boy what else he had seen.
12.“Did they understand what you said to them?”
He asked me if they had understood what I said to them.
13.“Are you sorry for what you did?”
The mother asked her son if he was sorry for what he had done.
14.“Do you think you could live entirely on your own for six months or would you get
bored?”
She asked her friend if she thought she could live on her own for six months or she
would get bored.
15.“How many sleeping pills have you taken?”
She asked the patient how many sleeping pills he/she had taken.
16.“What will you do now, couldn’t you see the gas running before you switched the
oven? “
The mother asked her boy angrily what he would do now, and if he couldn’t see the gas
running before he had switched the oven.
17.“Are you leaving today or tomorrow morning?”
Her dad asked her if she was leaving that day or the coming day.
