Leaving a Toxic Relationship

A toxic relationship is a relationship wherein it is a type of relationship between people


that don’t support each other, where there is conflict and one seeks to undermine the other
and that a competition is present and disrespect and a lack of cohesiveness can be found. This
type of relationship is very unpleasant and more often than not, will lead to mental trauma and
even abuse. A relationship is toxic if people who consistently demean or hurt its partner
intentionally or not, and it usually has a reason behind this type of behavior. A toxic relationship
can sometimes be attributed to a mismatch of pairing, two people who are incompatible with
each other. A toxic relationship is usually defined by physical harm, abuse, and harassment.

To leave a toxic relationship, a person must realize that he’s in one. Only when realizing
that a person is in a relationship, can he be able to assess and analyze the situation therein. A
person must cease making excuses for the other person’s behavior and must instead focus on
themselves first. Focusing on one’s behavior and action will tremendously help in leaving a toxic
relationship as it allows for a clear of mind and realizing the situation at hand.

Lessen the time spent with the toxic person in your life before leaving, so as to make
them acclimated to the fact that you will be leaving their life and to minimize the impact.
Leaving out of a toxic relationship is almost always the only solution as it is sometimes better to
end the relationship rather than fixing it. Another thing would be to list out your thoughts and
feelings, this will greatly help in evaluating your disposition towards the person and the
relationship in itself. It also helps in organizing your thoughts and feelings and helps you to
think more clearly.

Seeking support like from friends and relatives to talk about your personal experience
regarding the toxic relationship is a way to leave the relationship. As talking to someone can
give you the necessary insights in outsider perspective in dealing with a toxic relationship. A
person to rely can also help you after you have left the relationship as they may offer you
emotional support and.

Finding alternative source of happiness and doing other things that enrich yourself can
help in the wake of leaving a toxic relationship. As in this phase, it is necessary and important to
be happy and in a relaxing environment. Embracing the change that will come is also essential
in in creating the life that you want as it is important to do things that are for yourself, instead
of relying to other person in regards to your happiness.
