Teaching Philosophy

As a future educator, I want to provide a positive influence on my students through physical

education. Therefore, I will implicate daily life lesson through my curriculum. This will focus on
the affective domain where students can develop communication and teamwork. Physical
education can be utilized by how we structure our students’ behavior. When the level of
behavior is poor, there becomes a disfunction in transition between the tasks. Students will
tend to be off track. I will show them the difference in performance when students emphasize
the affective domain. I will do so by adapting the student’s style of learning and teach them
how communication and effort can lead to becoming a competent learner in physical
education. I will embed in the mind of students that not one student become a representation
of the class. Therefore, the majority displaying teamwork and discipline is a representation as a
whole.

My goal is for my students to have a disciplinary approach in physical education. I want my

students to have a positive mentality in every aspect. My students will grasp the purpose of
physical education and implement it into their daily lifestyle. I will not enable the thought that
physical education is not an actual class. When students sense that the instructor does not care,
that will also transition into the student’s mindset. I will start the year by observing every
student performance and behavior by having an end goal of visualizing improvement within
each student.

I have a vision to motivate students with care and respect. I will be a role model and mentor my
student to become the best version of themselves. In other words, classmates providing
feedback, taking turns, demonstrating tasks and showing respect from one to another. It is
important for me as a physical educator to have an established routine each class. Where I am
able to introduce the lesson and class objective. This is effective because the routine should be
a ritual for every student. When the class starts off differently than usual, students tend to
become lost. It will be hard to have students to follow instructions. Secondly, the class should
have a proper structure by planning ahead. I will plan ahead in advance for students to grasp
the lesson and main objective. For example, student will work on shooting in our basketball unit
and demonstrate the affective domain by taking turn in groups. This kind of mentally prepare
the students to know ahead of time what we will be working on.

Assessments should not be used in a way to determine students’ grades. The progression
within a child performance should matter most. Every student progress in their own time
frame. An instructor shouldn’t always think that every student will be great at something by the
end of the unit. However, the instructor should focus on how much the student progress. The
progression of a student is a clear reflection of the pre and post assessment. Before assessing
students, each individual should have of a clear indication of what will be on the assessment. I
will provide students with a rubric on the psychomotor and affective domain. I believe that not
providing a guide will lead to students misunderstanding the criteria. The criteria will involve
students taking initiative in the class. Students become better learners by assisting, encouraging
and showing effort. The classroom will have a self-rating system at the end of the class period
to describe how they feel about their behavior in class. This allows students to use this time to
reflect on things they did. Like helping a friend out, giving feedback or even asking questions
and participating. This will help students understand the value of having the right attitude in
class. Every student will enjoy and become successful learners.

It is important to maintain and create a safe environment for student to become physically
active. Students should always feel like the class is a safe zone. This is where students feel
comfortable to perform tasks and express their knowledge in the class. When students start to
feel singled out, there is sometimes a decrease in their performance. The class should be a
welcoming environment for all. There should be important ground rules established to help
maintain a positive environment. Rules should be enforced from the beginning of the school
year and kept throughout the entire academic year. This way students adapt to it from the first
week of class. I think diversity and inclusion plays a major role to maintaining a safe
environment. Students should be culturally aware of different types of race, ethnicity, sexual
orientation, ability/disability and socioeconomic status. My end goal is to not only to educate
my students, but to apply our everyday life skills through physical education.
