Guide Questions:
1. What are the hormones produced in the male and female reproductive systems?
Enumerate and discuss each.
2. Every individual is designed to have an organ system with its corresponding parts
and functions. What happens when your body does not produce enough hormone like
testosterone? What happens if too much estrogen is produced?
5. Why is it so important to seek medical advice from the doctor or medical expert if
you have hormonal problems? How important are hormones to our body?

ANSWERS:
1.
Male Hormones:
a) Testosterone, the hormone responsible for the secondary sexual
characteristics that develop in the male during adolescence, stimulates
spermatogenesis. These secondary sex characteristics include a deepening of
the voice, the growth of facial, axillary, and pubic hair, and the beginnings of
the sex drive.
b) Inhibin, hormone which is released into the blood when the sperm count is
too high. This inhibits the release of GnRH and FSH, which will cause
spermatogenesis to slow down.
Female Hormones:
a) Estrogen is the reproductive hormone in females that assists in endometrial
regrowth, ovulation, and calcium absorption; it is also responsible for the
secondary sexual characteristics of females. These include breast
development, flaring of the hips, and a shorter period necessary for bone
maturation.
b) Progesterone assists in endometrial re-growth and inhibition of FSH and LH
release. In females, FSH stimulates development of egg cells, called ova,
which develop in structures called follicles.
2.
When your body starts producing less testosterone, it's common to notice a lower
sex drive and difficulty getting or maintaining an erection. But low testosterone can
cause additional issues that include: Weight gain. Hair loss, both on your body and
face. Decreases in testosterone can lead to physical changes includes increasing body
fat. Decreased strength/mass of muscles. Fragile bones. Some of the symptoms
associated with low testosterone in women (affected sexual desire), affected sexual
satisfaction, and depressed mood.

High levels of estrogen may put you at higher risk of blood clots and stroke.
Estrogen dominance may also increase your chances of thyroid dysfunction. This can
cause symptoms such as fatigue and weight changes.
3.
When you have a hormonal imbalance, you have too much or too little of a certain
hormone. Even tiny changes can have serious effects throughout your whole body.
Think of hormones like a cake recipe. Too much or too little of any one ingredient
affects the final product. While some hormone levels fluctuate throughout your lifetime
and may just be the result of natural aging, other changes occur when your glands got
wrong way to produce.
4.
From the time we are born, our hormones dictate our appetite, sleep patterns,
how we respond to stress, our libido, whether we’re happy or anxious, and everything
in between. Health professionals throw the term “hormone imbalance” around a lot
these days.
5.
An endocrinologist can diagnose and treat hormone problems and the complications that
arise from them. Hormones regulate metabolism, respiration, growth, reproduction, sensory
perception, and movement. Hormone imbalances are the underlying reason for a wide range of
medical conditions.
Hormones are molecules produced by the endocrine system that send messages to various
parts of the body. They help regulate your body's processes, like hunger, blood pressure, and
sexual desire. While hormones are essential to reproduction, they are fundamental to all the
systems of your body.
