LEARNING ACTIVITIES AND STRATEGIES

PRESENT PERFECT

To form the present perfect, the auxiliary verb "to have" is used in
the present and the past participle of the verb. For regular verbs, the
past participle is the simple form of the past.

STRUCTURES:

Affirmative Sentences (Frases afirmativas)

Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (to have) + participio pasado…

Examples:

• I have [I’ve] talked to Peter.

• She has [She’s] gone to work.

• We have [We’ve] been to London

• They have [They’ve] learned English.

Negative sentences (Frases negativas)

Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (to have) + “not” + participio pasado…

Examples:

• I haven’t talked to Peter

• She hasn’t gone to work

• We haven’t been to London

• They haven’t learned English

Interrogative sentences (Frases interrogativas)

Verbo auxiliar (to have) + sujeto + participio pasado + ?

Examples:

• Have you talked to Peter?

• Has she gone to work?

• Have you been to London?

• Have they learned English?

USES:

1. Actions started in the past that continue in the present

Example

• She has lived in Madrid since 2002: Ella ha vivido en Madrid desde 2002 (y todavía vive allí)

• I have loved you since the day I met you: Te he querido desde el día que te conocí (y aún te quiero)

1. Actions in an indefinite time between past and present

Example

• I have visited them frequently: Los he visitado con frecuencia

• We have been to that museum many times: Hemos ido a ese museo muchas veces

3. Actions completed in the very recent past (+ just)
