l The Draeger accuro®
pump is the standard unit
used for sampling with
Draeger-Tubes.
l It is used to draw a
calibrated 100 cc of air
through the Simultaneous
Test Sets on each pump

The Simultaneous Test Sets

l The HazMat Simultest Kit contains 3
separate semi-quantitative Simultest Sets
l Each set consists of 5 different specially
designed and calibrated detector tubes
l Sampling procedures and ambient
condition criteria are the same for all 3
test sets
w This system allows for a very rapid
screening of 15 chemicals or chemical
families when testing for unknowns

l Simultaneous Test Set I detects the following:
¬ Acid Gases (Hydrochloric Acid, Nitric Acid, etc.)
- Hydrocyanic Acid
® Carbon Monoxide

of a 5 slot manifold for
the tube sets, 1 meter
extension hose and
quick connect to

Using the Kit

l To determine what
substance(s) are
present, all three
Simultest Sets should
be used
l The order in which the
tests are taken does not
matter
l However, Draeger
recommends that the
tests be taken in the
order of I, II then III for
consistency in use

Opening the Simultest Sets

l Scrape ceramic edge of the Flow Indication Arrow

Simultest Set Opener at

multiple times to score the
glass tips
l Push opener completely over
rubber block with ceramic
cutter up and apply pressure Ceramic cutter “up”
down until all tube tip break off
l Insert the tube set into the
adapter (flow arrow pointing in)
and then break tips on other
side of set

it will no longer
compress (the stroke
indicator will have
advanced)
l Allow the bellows to re-
expand by itself until
reappearance of the
white dot on top
indicates end of stroke

Operation of the Kit

l When in the area of
the suspected
contamination...
l Take 10 complete
pump strokes
w Each stroke will take
from 2 to 6 seconds
l Evaluate any color
change in the tested
tube set immediately
upon completion of
the 10 pump strokes

l Repeat the sampling
procedure for the other
two Simultest Sets and
evaluate results
l Complete test regimen
for all three Simultest
Sets is accomplished in
less than 5 minutes!
l Even though the
Simultest may present a
negative result the
presence of other
harmful gases cannot
be precluded

Evaluating the Results

l Refer to the laminated cards for quick
interpretation of any color changes in the tubes

l Many of the tubes have two measurement lines to

provide a semi-quantitative determination of
contaminant present

Example: Set I, Tube #4 - Basic Gases

l The first line equates

to 50 ppm and the
second 250 ppm on
the calibrated
substance which is
ammonia
l Other alkaline
substances such as 50 ppm 250 ppm

amines and hydrazine

give a similar color
change, but at slightly
different sensitivities ~50 ppm

Simultaneous Test Sets

l The Test Sets have a two
year shelf life and will be
provided with a date stamp
indicating expiration date
l Old sets are ideal for
training purposes
l Test Sets cannot be reused
once opened
l Disposal of used tube sets
is per relevant governing
body. Draeger offers a
standard letter to assist in
this process if requested.
