Simulation
Preoperative consideration of different access routes and validation of patient-specific implants allows you to plan surgical procedures
optimally and, if necessary, shorten the duration of the operation. The Medical Edition turns your computer into a virtual operating
room.
• Perform virtual cuts on virtual 3D models
• Import and position implants
• Visualize implants in images
• Indicate and export landmarks
• Perform anthropometric analysis
• Plan osteotomies and/or distractions.
Anatomical Reverse Engineering
In order to import anatomical data into another CAD software or to send the data to a CNC milling machine, you must
first generate an analytical geometry model (Anatomical Reverse Engineering) out of the .stl format. This module makes
this process precise and easy.

• Automatic smoothing and dividing of free geometry

• Export of data into IGES and STEP format - with minimal data volume
FEA
Prepare high quality meshes for realistic computational modeling simulations of anatomical objects with full control over
mesh refinement, smoothness and element matching.
• Generate and export finite element meshes for FEA and CFD studies
• Optimize by controlling global or local mesh sizes and quality
• Create boundary surfaces
• Perform CT gray value based heterogeneous material assignment
• Create multi-part assembly meshes

C&V segmentation
With the Cardiovascular module you have a solution for fast and accurate segmentation
and analysis of the complete heart and coronary system.
• Increased efficiency in cardiovascular segmentation through fully automated
segmentation algorithms of the different heart segments and coronaries
• Segmentation of 4D data using mask morphing technology

Pulmonary
Derive more anatomical information from your lung CT scans. With the “Lung Module” you have a flexible solution for
accurate segmentation and analysis of the lower respiratory system. Support your research with improved outcome
parameters that enable you to detect diseases early and develop innovative options for localized therapies.
• Accurate segmentation and analysis of lung lobes and the airway
• Setting centerlines and defining the fissure planes

Muscle segmentation
With the atlas based muscle segmentation a fast and semi-automatic segmentation of the lower extremities out of MRI
scans can be achieved. This can lead to a large reduction in segmentation time as well as improving the accuracy and
consistency for large case studies.
• Usage of created atlases for single muscle segmentation of the lower extremities
• Division of individual muscles and muscle groups into separate masks
• Creation of own atlas library for user defined regions

X-Ray
The X-ray module consists of manual and automatic tools that allow you to register multiple X-ray images on 3D models
obtained from a CT or MRI scan, reposition 3D models to the position in the X-ray images, and back-project landmark
points from your X-ray images into your 3D environment.
• Validation of the customer-specific implant post-Op position according to the pre-planned situation with the use of x-
ray images
• Gather experience to determine which surgical technique provides the best implant alignment.

Scripting
The scripting module allows you to automate your workflows through the use of a script, written in Python. Doing that you can
scale up your work, avoid repetition and get consistency in results.
• Providing demo scripts in the Scripting Library
• Exchange about scripting possibilities in the Materialise Scripting Community

Lattice
Using the certified lattice structures toolbox develop and certify patient-specific porous devices in a more scalable
manner thanks to the new medical version of the lattice structures module.
• Create a wide range of design concepts using extensive unit cell and conformal structure tools
• Optimize your design by applying gradients and randomization
• Streamline the link to 3D printing by means of buildability analysis and a link to build processors
• Reduce design time with design automation and integration in a single image to 3D print platform

Texturing
Individual structuring and contouring of a surface (e.g. skull plate) for implantology and prosthetics. The patterning of a
surface is done by means of an existing STL file (unit cell).
