They read / he likes / 1work etc. = the present simple:

Remember:
he works / she lives / it rains etc.
O I work in a shop. My brother works in a bank. M y brother work)
O Lucy lives in London. Her parents live in Scotland.
O It rains a lot in winter.

Spelling (—» Appendix 5):

-es after -s / -sh / -ch: pass —» passes finish —>finishes watch -» watches
-y — studies
>- try —>tries
ies: study
also: do -» does go -> goes

We use the present simple for things that are true in general, or for things that happen sometimes or all
the time:
O I like big cities.
O Your English is good. You speak very well.
O Tom works very hard. He starts at 7.30 and finishes at 8 o'clock in the evening.
O The earth goes round the sun.
o . We do a lot of different things in our free time.
o It costs a lot of money to build a hospital.

always/never/often/usually/sometimes + present simple


O Sue always gets to work early, (not Sue gets always)
O I never eat breakfast, (not I eat never)
□ We often go away at weekends.
O M ark usually plays football on Sundays.
O I sometimes walk to work, but not very often.
