Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is based on my past learning experiences. As a teacher of

elementary students, I never want to lose sight of what it felt like to be an elementary student

myself. I want every student that enters my classroom to feel like they are respected and

appreciated for who they are and that they matter. There were many times I struggled with

learning and functioning in the school setting. Through these experiences, I am driven to meet

my students where they are and embrace them as unique individuals, worth being valued and

accepted for who they are, while learning to accept and appreciate differences in others. I want to

be the teacher for my students that I never had. My goal is to help each of my students develop

as individuals and become life-long learners.

I will develop connections and relationships with students in order to show them I care

and make them feel valued and safe. Getting to know them and meeting them where they are will

create an environment of mutual respect and acceptance. I will always have high expectations for

all of my students academically, but also behaviorally. I believe when a student’s emotional

needs are being met, they are in an ideal place to receive learning. These behavioral expectations

will be communicated through structured but individualized practices like PBIS that promote

self-regulation and personal responsibility.

Learning will not be dictated to my students, but will be presented it in a way that invites

their participation and curiosity. My teaching style is dynamic and will adapt to the needs of my

students, not the other way around. I will provide them with a wide range of interactive learning
opportunities meant to develop critical thinking skills, reinforce positive social interactions and

learn those core skills that will provide a solid foundation to continue their educational journey.

My hope is for my students to know without a doubt, I cared for them and always wanted

the best for them. I want to leave students with a love of learning and to have felt they belonged

in my classroom. Ultimately, I hope the tools I give them for learning will mean they never feel

like they have to abandon what makes them unique in order to be successful in my classroom

and beyond.
