ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY

Aesop, J. (1994). The Ant and the Grasshopper. Little, Brown and Company.

The story is a literary fable that talks about an ant saving food for the rainy days while
the grasshopper is just playing around. Then the rainy season came, the grasshopper found
itself dying of hunger and begging for food.

The story portrays a very strong message and the fact that it could be applied to any
human being, makes it an even stronger point. Moreover, it uses simple words and provides
vivid illustrations to the readers. Lastly, it has always been appropriate literature to children
because it is relatable in life situations that makes it more interesting.

The story is helpful for both children and adults because it tells us about hard work and
things that we work on today will be beneficial for tomorrow. Moreover, this developed thinking
about one who is industrious are being blessed while the lazy persons are being punished.

Andersen, H.C. (1835). The Princess and the Pea. Denmark: C.A. Reitzel

The Princess and the Pea is a literary fairy-tale that talks about a love story of a prince
who wanted to marry a princess but finds difficulty because they do not possess the good
manners she was looking for. Then soon he found a woman who’s having a royal identity
discovered by a test of sensitivity in a pea covered by huge mattresses and 20 feather beds.
The prince was shocked and happy that he found his true princess.

The story is filled with interesting characters and wide imagination. In addition, the story
uses simple words, so it became easy to understand by the readers. Lastly it attracts the
reader's attention for using princess as their subject.

The story is suitable for children for it teaches the danger of jumping into conclusions
without knowing the facts. It will be very beneficial to adults for they will understand and relate
as they grow older and apply the moral in real life situations.

Andersen, H.C. (1845). The Red Shoes. Denmark: C.A. Reitzel

The little girl loves her red shoes and always wears them everywhere she goes, even to
a God-fearing church. Until one day, she wears her shoes, her feet start dancing on their own
and she can stop dancing nor take off those shoes. But even so, the little girl never gave up on
her red shoes. In the end, the executioner had to cut off her feet. But the two feet that got cut off
still continued to dance in those red shoes.

The story is done with some difficult words which may hinder the understanding of the
children. But it has a great plot and teaches moral lessons. Also, valuable insights that can be
applied to real-life situations are still incorporated in the story.

It is a great book for children because of its interesting plot. Moreover, it is good for
young readers because there are words that can broaden vocabulary as they read this story.

Carle, E. (1990). The Very Quiet Cricket. New York: Philomel Books

It is a silent adventure of a very quiet cricket. The cricket meets all different creatures
that say, “hi” to him and he wants to respond, but when he rubs his wings together, nothing
happens. This happens many times until he meets a girl cricket that is also very quiet and when
he rubs his wings together this time, he makes a sound.

The story is simple and straightforward, chosen words are easy to understand, and the
illustration is interesting for readers to enjoy the whole story. The children can relate and will
enjoy the story as it is stated in simple words.

Bond, M. (1958). A Bear called Paddington. United Kingdom. Harper Collins

The story is about a young Peruvian bear travels to London in search of a home. Finding
himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he meets the kindly Brown family, who offer him a
temporary haven. A young Peruvian bear with a passion for all thing’s British travels to London
in search of a home.

A comforting and exciting story. It is presented in a simple plot yet makes use of
metaphor thus make the text very attractive which makes it more appealing and entertaining at
the same time.

The children will benefit a lot from this story since it emphasizes that each one of us has
goodness within. The story is timeless and relatable because of its element about humanity.

Cho, Y. (2020). Zombie Kid. Seoul: Wisdom House

The story is about a baby boy who was born different. As the child grew, his mother
eventually realized that he had no feelings at all and was a zombie with an uncontrollable
appetite. She kept her child in the basement, she stole livestock from other houses and secretly
fed, and raised her child until she killed all the livestock in the village. People started to leave
the village, in the end, the mother decided to give herself, her arms, and gave to her child the
rest of her body.

The story is tragic yet it has an unforgettable lesson. It is a book in which everyone will
relate. The story is short yet pleasing pictures, the words are easy to understand, and it was
narrated straightforwardly for readers to follow the story easily.

This book is good for children and adults. Moreover, the story has a dark yet realistic plot
that promotes the values of loving especially the relationship between parents and children.

Potter, B. (1902). The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Frederick Warne & Co.

The Mischievous and disobedient young Peter Rabbit is chased about the garden of Mr.
McGregor. He escapes and returns home to his mother Mrs. Rabbit who puts him to bed after.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit,' tells the story of a very naughty rabbit who gets himself into a very
dangerous situation for not following her mother’s advice.

Looking at this story, it contains direct and clear lessons. It filled a connection to the
readers wherein it highlights how breaking the rules may put us in danger. Furthermore, the
gained insights can be applied in real life situations.

The story deserves to be shared to children because this story teaches moral lessons.
The children can relate and will enjoy the story as it is told in a simpler language. Furthermore, it
also emphasizes that following elders will never lead us harm.

Rizal, J. (1889). The Tortoise and the Monkey. England: Trubner’s Oriental Record

The story is a literary fable that talks about a tortoise and a monkey who plant halves of
a banana tree. Thinking that the upper part with leaves would bear fruit soon, the avaricious
monkey plants the upper half but it withers.

In this story, the text contains easy-to-read words that lead to understanding the plot
easily, and the illustration is simple. Also, it contains a great lesson that will teach children not to
be greedy. It is a simple story yet it has a powerful lesson that helps children to be more
considerate to others.

It is one of the interesting stories that will help children to be more into reading. children
become more attached to reading literature as they enjoy the story.

White, E.B. (1952). Charlotte’s Web. Harper Collins.

Fern Arable is devastated when she hears that her father is going to kill the runt of his
pig’s new litter. She persuades him and tells him that the piglet has a right to life and promises
to look after it, after that she wins to save the animal and names him Wilbur. When Wilbur
discovers that he is being raised for slaughter Charlotte comes into the picture which weaves
words or short phrases in praise of Wilbur into her web, making the barn, and pig, a tourist
attraction, with the web believed to be a miracle.

It is a simple story and relevant since everyone experiences how to live on a farm. It
shows how simple, yet interesting farm life is. In addition, the word usage is easy to understand
and appropriate to be considered as children’s literature. The moral lesson is evident in the story
and vividly portrayed by characters.

The story is great for it is an interesting story one could never forget. Moreover, it will
further help the children to develop the act of kindness with the attention and moral lesson
needed.

Yeon-soo, K. (2020). The Boy Who Fed on Nightmares. Seoul: Jamsan Publiushers

This is an awful story of a boy who always has a terrible nightmare. He was terrified of
falling asleep and went to the witch and begged. Years went by, the witch returned for granting
his wish and the boy shouted at her with so much resentment. then the witch took his soul as
they had promised and said to him, painful memories buried in the hearts can make
stronger,passionate, and emotionally flexible and only those can attain happiness. Remember it
all and overcome it. If you don’t overcome it all, you’ll always be a kid whose soul never grows.

The story is short yet meaningful and it has a great illustration that will get readers
attached to the story. Moreover, it aims to teach values and lessons in life. Unlike other
children’s books, it ended with an unhappy ending.

The theme and content of the story are both suitable for both adults and children which
will give them a chance to think and understand about consequences in life.
