Problem (Main Particulars.) : Freeboard Calculation Above 100m in Length

This document calculates the freeboard for a 120m dry cargo ship. It determines the tabular freeboard is 1.70872m based on linear interpolation in the freeboard table. Corrections are made for block coefficient, depth, superstructure, and sheer profile. The minimum summer freeboard is determined to be 1965.48601mm and minimum bow height is 4981.22mm for ships under 250m in length.

Solution:

Freeboard Length, 𝑳_𝒇

𝐿_𝑓 = 96% of Lwl 120.96 m 0.12096 mm

Freeboard depth, 𝑫_𝒇

𝐷_𝑓 10.025 m 0.010025 mm

Tabular Freeboard value, 𝑻_𝒇

The tabular freeboard value can be calculated by linear Interpolation from freeboard table for type B ships.

Freeboard in
Ship's meter
Length in
meter
120 1.69 (𝑋−𝑋1)/(𝑋1−𝑋2)=
𝑻_𝒇 (𝑇𝑓−𝑌1)/(𝑌1−𝑌2)
120.96
122 1.729 𝑻_𝒇 1.70872

Correction for length

The ship is greater than 100m so, there is no need for correction.
Therefore,
𝒇_𝟏𝑻_𝒇
= 1.70872 m
Correction for block coeffient
Since, the ship's𝑪_𝒃 is 0.722 > 0.68, so correction is need in freeboard.
𝒇_𝟐 = 1.76149 m

Correction for depth

When𝐷_𝑓 exccds L/15, then the freeboard will be increased by ( 𝐷_(𝑓
- L/15)R in mm, where R=L/0.48 for less than 120m ship
and R=250 for above 120m ships. )
If𝐷_𝑓 < L/15, then no correction will be made.
𝒇_𝟑 = 2.251739 m

Correction for superstructure

The standard heigth of a superstructure is given below.

The effective length is the length modified by the ratio of b/B and h/H
Where, b is breadth of the superstructure at middle length of it, h is the heigth of the superstructure.
B is the breadth of the ship at middle length of superstr., H is the standard heigth of superstructure.
