Lab 03

The document describes a lab experiment on measuring characteristics of a series DC circuit using Ohm's law. The objectives are to understand series DC circuits and calculate resistance, voltage and current. Students will build a series circuit on a breadboard with different valued resistors and a DC power supply. They will measure values using a multimeter and calculate using formulas to verify the measurements. Procedures include calculating resistance using color codes, measuring resistance, voltage and current, and recording observations in tables.

Lab Objective 2. Calculation of Resistance, Voltage and Current in Series circuit through
DMM and through Formula.
1. Build Series on Bread board
Lab Experiment 2. Calculate Value of Resistance, Voltage & Current in Series Circuit.
3. Verification of relevant Value measured through DMM & through
formula.
Different Valued resistors, Basic Trainer(Breadboard), DC Power supply,

Multimeter, Connecting Wires

SERIES CIRCUITS:

When resistors are placed in series with each other, the current flow through each resistor is the
same:
I Total = I1= I2 = I3 . . . Series current
To get the total resistance of the circuit you can just add up the resistance of each resistor:
R Total = R1+ R2+ R3 + . . . Series resistors
The total voltage of the circuit can also be found by adding up the voltage across each individual
resistor. However the voltage across each resistor is different, and must be calculated using Ohm’s
Law:

V1 = I R1
V2 = I R2
V3 = I R3
