LOCATION RECCE

LOCATION
Odeon Luxe Warrington Cinema
LOCATION ADDRESS
100, Westbrook Centre, Cromwell Ave, Westbrook, Warrington WA5 8UD
TYPE OF BUILDING/STRUCTURE/LANDSCAPE
Cinema building, 1 story long building.

WHY IS THIS LOCATION SUITABLE FOR YOUR PROJECT?

This location is suitable as my documentary is based on cinemas therefore filming at a cinema allows me to get some shots
of the building and speak to the workers there asking them questions related to the pandemic affecting cinemas. Getting
establishing shots of the cinema can make the documentary more interesting for the audience to be able to see outside the
interview room and brings the documentary to life. Moreover, the audience will be intrigued into seeing the opinions of
those of work in a cinema and their perspectives of the cinemas closing during lockdown.

their consent to be in the background.

Describe any restrictions/hazards in the immediate vicinity:

Any members of the public which wouldn’t want to be in the backgrounds of the shots or seen in the documentary for an
interview, hazards are filming next to a car park therefore need to be aware of the surroundings. The staff in the cinema
may not want me to record too far inside the cinema for example inside the screens due to copyrights of films playing.
Where will the crew work on this location?
Inside and outside of the cinema to help get some shots of the cinema all around and inside for filming the interviews and a
couple cutaway shots of items inside the cinema.
Where will the cast work on this location?
The cast will be inside the cinema and in the lobby part where you buy tickets as it needs to be in the correct mise en scene
of setting with the background being appropriate, show the audience that they’re in a cinema.
TOP 3 RISKS IDENTIFIED ON LOCATION
(N.B. this does not replace the Risk Assessment form which must be carried out for any practical project)
Cinema placed next to a car park, risk could be whilst filming being aware of surroundings of any cars approaching the car
park and careful not to leave any equipment on the road or nearby to avoid any cars hitting it.
Public place and next to a primary school, making sure no one is seen in the backgrounds, if so make sure to blur them out.
If people are standing next to the cinema building make them aware of what you’re doing in order to get them to move.
Permission of any workers in the cinema when filming inside, making them aware of what this is for and get permission to
film inside the cinema and consent from workers which will be interviewed.

Describe the aesthetics of the location (e.g. Describe the potential camera shots or describe the acoustic value of the location)
Establishing extreme long shot of the cinema showing it from afar with all the lights off. Move into pan to tilt upwards high
angle shot long shot nearer to the building.
● Extreme long establishing shots of the cinema using the natural lighting of a dark and cloudy day making it more
gloomy and emphasising on the haunting cinema closed and abandoned and using the clear sunny day where more
people would be approaching the cinema contrasting the circumstances.
● Long shot panning to the right of the car park which would usually be filled with lots of cars.
● Zoom in from long shot to a close up of inside the building, low key lighting inside as no one is there whilst it’s
closed down.
● High angle tilt upwards shots looking up to the building, this can be used during the title sequence.
