Policies
Policies
Tertiary level policies and procedures are designed to provide an instant picture of the principles of the
school. They allow standards to be raised and values to be communicated clearly. A school policy has
the objective of supporting staff in managing certain situations which include health and welfare issues,
behavior and discrimination, amongst many others. It will form an important framework for the school
that will ensure consistency in applying values and principles throughout the establishment.
Some of the existing policies that can directly or indirectly affect the performance of the students in
tertiary level are:
Some of the school's practices reinforce the culture for learning; students have partially internalized this
culture and some of them make a commitment to excellence.
The culture of learning has its inevitable impact on its educational system. The educational system
points to the various needs of the society concerned, because it is towards the fulfillment of the same
that education is organized.
Whatever students learn through education is immensely influenced by culture of learning instilled
among them.
The culture of learning has its unending impact on the development of one’s personality. Education is
intimately relation with development of personality. Therefore, the kind of education depends upon the
nature of culture of the Society.
Curriculum Policies
Curriculum is all the courses offered in schools as well as universities. It involves lessons and teaching
aimed at helping learners to learn the basics that will help them for life after school.
It aimed at transforming the learner as it gives room for learners to exercise their talents and abilities.
Curriculum policies are exceptionally vital in achieving the education goals. It contains a systematic
approach that respects the needs of the students in line with their different fields. Curriculum policies
start from definition to its final goals on education. In developing a curriculum, the administrators
include courses that students should learn and the strategies that implementers must follow during the
learning process.
Markedly, curriculum shaping uses a student-centered approach; this approach encourages learners’
involvement in the learning process. In curriculum development, organizations that represent students
are always included in this process; they bring in the interests of the students on board. These student
representatives outline what they expect the curriculum to have in the end. The ultimate aim at the end
is to achieve the quality of education students need for a better future.
Grading Policies
Student grades reflect mastery of the curriculum, and do not reflect the standing of students relative to
other students. Factors such as effort, amount of progress, and level of participation and cooperation
are addressed separately on report cards.
Grading enables teachers to communicate the achievements of students to parents and others, provide
incentives to learn, and provide information that students can use for self-evaluation. In addition,
schools use grades to identify or group students for particular educational paths or programs and to
evaluate a program's effectiveness
Grades have some value as rewards, but no value as punishments. Although educators would
undoubtedly prefer that motivation to learn be entirely intrinsic, the existence of grades and other
reporting methods are important factors in determining how much effort students put forth. Most
students view high grades as positive recognition of their success, and some work hard to avoid the
consequences of low grades.
The teacher education program will be accredited. You are invited to evaluate its program in terms of
instruction, research, extension, student services, and income-generating activities. To facilitate the
accreditation, what are the indicators that you want to see in every area and their expected outputs.
The following are the indicators that I want to see during the teacher education program accreditation
evaluation:
Instruction
Research
Extension
