 Project Idea
Our project is about cerebral palsy we want to design mathematics game specifically targeting
children with intellectual and physical disabilities

Introduction:
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) focuses on the functionality, design and assessment of
computer systems to provide an efficient and pleasant user experience for individuals. We are
working on Cerebral palsy in this project. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of disorders that affect a
person’s ability to move and maintain balance and posture [8]. CP is the most common motor
disability in childhood. Cerebral means having to do with the brain. Palsy means weakness or
problems with using the muscles. CP is caused by abnormal brain development or damage to the
developing brain that affects a person’s ability to control his or her muscles.
The symptoms of CP vary from person to person. A person with severe CP might need to use
special equipment to be able to walk, or might not be able to walk at all and might need lifelong
care. A person with mild CP, on the other hand, might walk a little awkwardly, but might not need
any special help. CP does not get worse over time, though the exact symptoms can change over a
person’s lifetime.

Facts and Figure:

Some children fail to learn basic mathematical processes despite appropriate and thoughtful
teaching. Where this is the case thought needs to be put into how best to support this learning. It
may be that the child will need electronic aids to support basic learning in maths in order for the
child to make appropriate progress. This should only be taken after much careful recording of the
attempts made to overcome the difficulty and discussion with supporting professionals and the
family.

A young man, with cerebral palsy, who had excellent academic achievement failed to acquire
mental addition and subtraction of simple numbers although he was able to understand all the
processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

For most children the ability to understand the mathematics at the same level as their general
ability is not severely damaged and, with appropriate support, they will make progress.
