Directly Buried Cable (600 - 22 KV) : General Notes

This document provides guidelines for burying direct cables. It specifies that directly buried cable between 600-22,000 volts must be buried at least 75cm underground and cable in conduit in that voltage range must be buried at least 45cm deep. It also states that directly buried cable over 30 inches underground needs to have a warning tape placed at least 12 inches above the cable to identify its location.

DIRECTLY BURIED CABLE (600 -22 KV) Table 300.50: Embedment depth requirements:
- Directly buried cable (600 - 22,000 volts): 75cm.
- Cable in conduit (600 -22,000 volts): 45cm.

Underground direct-buried cables that are not encased or protected

by concrete and are buried 750 mm. (30 in.) or more below ground shall
have their location identified by a warning tape that is placed in the trench
at least 300 mm (12 in.) above the cables.

300.5 (d) (3): Protection from Damage. Direct-buried conductors and cables
shall be protected from damage in accordance with 300.5(D)(1) through
(D)(4).(3) Service Conductors. Underground service conductors that are not
700 encased in concrete and that are buried 450 mm (18 in.) or more below grade
