It is a greater compliment to be trusted than to be loved. – George MacDonald

We each have balances we informally keep with family, friends, associates,
coworkers, and anyone else we interact with. Emotional bank accounts have deposits
and withdrawals just like a regular bank account. Positive interactions are deposits and
negative interactions withdrawals. We make deposits and withdrawals with every
personal and professional interaction.
Trust is the glue of life. It is the glue that holds organizations, cultures and
relationships together. Ironically it comes from the speed of going slow. With people,
fast is slow and slow is fast. Relationships are governed by natural laws. They are the
fruit of regular actions, positive or negative, inspired by the conscience and heart.
Relationships are analogous financial bank accounts where our actions could either be a
deposit or a withdrawal. In other words, relationships are emotional bank accounts.
Trust is not only a noun; It is also a verb. Trust is not only the fruit of
trustworthiness; it is also the root of motivation. It is the highest form of motivation.
Love also becomes a verb. It is something you do; you love or serve others; you trust
others; you see their worth and potential and provide opportunity and nourishment
and encouragement. Remember the power you hold to give your trust to others. You

may open yourself to the risk of being disappointed, and you will need to be wise in the
exercise of this power. But when you do, you give a priceless gift and opportunity to
others. The greatest risk of all is the risk of riskless living. As what Mahatma Gandhi
said: “Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it stands than to anything
on which it is poured. “

People learn of their true nature and gifts. They use them to develop a vision of
great things they want to accomplish. With wisdom they take initiative and cultivate
great understanding of the needs and opportunities around them. They meet those
needs that match their unique talents, that tap their higher motivations and that makes
a difference. In short, they find and use their voice. They serve and inspire others. They
apply principles that govern growth and prosperity in human beings and in
organizations – principles that draw the highest and best from a “whole person” –
body, mind, heart and spirit. Equally significant, they choose to influence and inspire
others to find their voice through these principles as well.
Each one of us deep down longs to live a life of greatness and contribution – to
really matter, to really make a difference. And yes, we all have the potential within us
because it is the birthright of the human family. We discover our voice by coming to
understand our true nature – engaging our magnificent birth gifts and by developing
and using with integrity the intelligence tied to each of the four parts of our nature. We

then express our voice by cultivating the highest manifestations of these human
intelligences – vision, discipline, passion and conscience.
Once we find our voice, the choice to expand our influence, to increase our
contribution, is the choice to inspire others to find their voice. As we recognize, respect
and create ways for others to give voice to all four parts of their nature – physically,
mentally, emotionally/socially and spiritually – latent human genius, creativity,
passion, talent and motivation are unleashed. This is us impacting the world positively,
influencing change and powering the future. This is true greatness.

but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”
