Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technolgy: Answer

1. An IDF connects departments' computers and can be used in multi-building campus networks. It introduces hierarchy between the MDF and horizontal crossconnects. 2. 110 blocks organize copper cables for network connections. They support up to 100MHz and have a punch-down arrangement for up to 300 cable pairs. 3. Baselines such as configuration and performance baselines recorded initial network setups and throughput, allowing future changes to be evaluated.

NUEVA ECIJA UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLGY

GABALDON CAMPUS
Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija

MIDTERM EXAMINATION

Name: DIETHER F. OCAMPO Score: ___________

Year & Section: BSIT-3 Date: ____________
Subject: ITNET 05 Network Security

Respond the following questions

1. How does an IDF apply?

Answer:
Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) – used to connect the departments computers. It can also be setup in a
multi-building (campus) network. The Intermediate Distribution Frame introduces a hierarchy of cable
organization between the Main Distribution Frame and Horizontal crossconnects.

2. The 110 block is what to use?

Answer:
110 Blocks are Copper Wiring punch-down blocks used to organize the cables to have connection to the
different systems of the network. The 110 block. It supports 100 MHz operation (Category 5 UTP Cable). It
is a modernized type of IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector). It has an improved "110 block" which is
now in punch-down arrangement and a wiring block or distribution frame. A 110-wiring block is organized
horizontal rather than in vertical, which offers thickness than a 66 block. When it comes to distribution
frames, it supports around 25 to 300 pairs cable configurations.

3. What types of baseline are useful when doing the configuration management?

Answer:
A configuration baseline records the initial setup of software or appliance. A performance baseline records
the initial throughput or general performance of a network (or part of a network). These baseline allow
changes in the future to be evaluated.

4. In terms of day-to-day jobs, what proves that effective configuration management actions are in
place?

Answer:
Job logs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to control and document configuration and document
configuration and troubleshoot work.

5. What are physical schematics?

Answer:
A physical schematic shows the locations of components and their IDs.

6. What are logical schematics?

Answer:
A logical schematic shows the topology of the network in abstract (such as IP networks).

7. True or false? Rack units are retailed in models of varying width?

Answer:
False - 19" width is standard while the height varies in "U" units of 1.75".
8. You are working at a network technician; you suddenly point and notice that the cables in one patch
panel are all red while the ones in another are all blue. What does this represent?

Answer:
These standards apply for signal wiring. Cables in one patch panel use red for positive, blue for negative.

9. What type of door access control would allow entry based on the cryptographic smart card?

Answer:
Proximity reader.

10. What technology could be used to facilitate security cameras without having to provide a separate
circuit for electrical power?

Answer:
IP cameras could be powered over data cabling using Power over Ethernet (PoE).

11. What type of security control necessitates resources and procedures to manage major incidents?

Answer:
A Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP).

12. What is MTBF and why is it related with a "bathtub curve"?

Answer:
Mean Time Between Failures - the bathtub curve is a plot of instances of failure over time and tends towards
a "bathtub" shape because failures are more likely early or late in the service life of an appliance than in the
middle.

13. A server is prepared with 4 Ethernet interfaces and you want to combine them to a single interface.
What feature must the switch support?

Answer:
Port bonding / Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP [IEEE 802.3ad / 802.1ax])

14. What technologies can be utilized to allow network infrastructure fault tolerant?

Answer:
Redundancy and failover needs to be provided at all levels: power, cabling / adapter teaming, switching,
routing, and name services / addressing. Cluster services and load balancers can be deployed to make
application and database servers fault tolerant.

15. What rack-mountable device can offer line filtering and power monitoring?

Answer:
A Power Distribution Unit (PDU).
