provided on the class website. Provide 3 to 4 apps/steps for students to complete along with a creative
title, helpful description, and relevant SC teaching standards.
· There must be one app per step.
· Android apps can be used as long as all included apps are from the same platform.
· Lessons must cohesively link together 3 to 4 apps going from one focus/step of the lesson to another.
· Lessons may include direct instruction provided the lecture contents are explained.
· Lessons may utilize web browser apps like Chrome or Safari to access website-based tools. Link to the
website in the write-up and the web browser app in the iTunes web link area.
· The final step in lessons must have students create a learning artifact from a creation-based app
(presentation, video, etc.) or screenshot of progress from a skill-based app that students would submit to
the teacher for assessment.

Title: …
Relevant SC Standards: …
3.1 Develop a plan of action for collecting relevant information from multiple sources through
play, observation, texts, websites, and conversations with adults/peers
4.2 Read grade-level texts orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on successive
readings.
4.3 Use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding rereading as
necessary.
6.1 Describe the relationship between the illustrations and the characters, setting, or events.
Description: This app lesson will develop recognition of word sounds between different letters in words
so that students can recall what exact letters sound like for when they learn to read, then they will
demonstrate their understanding into actual books to manage to read short books and get an understanding
of what the book is talking about.
Instructional Objective: Students will be able to...
Comprehend how different letters sound to allow them to read short stories
Step 1 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will… create a monster and go through a story. Their
monster will crash land on an island due to a storm, but does not know how to read. So, with the help of a
tree who also was affected by the storm, they will learn the different sounding of different letters to be
able to understand how to read. Throughout the game, there are little study breaks where the student will
be able to play with the characters in the game such as playing hide and seek with a pepper to have some
kind of fun activity in between each learning objective. This is a great way to help your special needs
students because it is a colorful fun game where they are not just focusing on learning, but moving,
playing games, designing their own character and much more to help calm their minds. It is also great for
students who struggle with speech because the game goes over multiple times how to pronounce that
letter as well as words that are similar to that letter. Students are also rewarded after doing an activity
with a prize for their monster, which the teacher in real life can also give the student a prize for their great
work too.

free so chrome preferred)

Step 2 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will… be able to pick any grade appropriate book of
their choosing and they will read the book at their own pace. The book is picture based, which helps
students have a better understanding of what is going on with the book. There are also a bunch of series
so when you finish the book you chose, there are more books about those characters, but with different
and new story lines, so students will be able to find an interest in what is going on as if it were an actual
television show. There are also videos and audiobooks that students can access, if given the permission
by the teacher, to allow that they can also take a break from the reading, but still be focused on the topics
that they are learning in the classroom. At the end, there are quizzes and different activities that the
teacher can give to the students to allow them to show their understanding on what is going on in each
book and their understanding of reading comprehension.

Step 3 Creation-Based (Learning Artifact) or Skill-Based App (Screenshot of Progress): Students will…
create a PowerPoint that they will present to me about any letter of their choosing. With that they will
demonstrate that they know what sound that letter makes and they will come up with words that have that
similar sound we well. This will reflect what they learned in the first app/game. Then they will come up
with a story with some or all of the words that they have chosen to bring out their creative side and show
that they learned of how to form sentences and really draw the reader's attention in. If they would like,
they could include pictures and videos to bring their stories to life.
