Experirent No. 8 Viscosity Test: .................... Second

This document describes procedures for measuring the viscosity of bituminous materials using various viscometers. It discusses how viscosity affects the strength and homogeneity of paving mixes. The fulcrum viscosity test measures the time in seconds for 50cc of material to flow through a specified orifice at different temperatures, with longer flow times indicating higher viscosity. The kinematic viscosity test uses a Zeitfuchs or Cannon-Manning viscometer to measure viscosity in centi-Stokes units at 135°C, accounting for temperature susceptibility differences in paving bitumens. Both tests provide important information on how bitumens will perform in paving applications.

viscometers are used to indirectly find the viscosity of liquid binders like cutbacks and
emulsions.

2. FUROL VISCOSITY TEST:

It is measured by recording the time in sec taken by 50 cc of material to flow through a

temperature.

2.1 APPARATUS AND MATERIALS:

A viscometer consists of a cylindrical cup approxinately 1.2" (3 cm) in diameter and 5.0"
