THE LAW ON OBLIGATIONS AND CONTRACTS

COURSE DESCRIPTION 

A study of the concepts of law in general. It covers (a) obligations, their nature, elements, sources,
classification, effects and modes of extinction; and (b) contracts, their nature, elements, effects,
form, interpretation, rescission, nullity, annulment and enforcement.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the semester the students are expected:

• To gain knowledge of the legal provisions governing business transactions in general, and the law
on obligations and contracts in particular
• To prepare the students for advance studies on business law;
• To develop analytical skills of applying the law on obligations and contracts on certain situations or
business transactions.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Prelim examination: 20%


Midterm examination: 20%
Class Participation: 30%
Final Exam: 30%
Total 100%

A. READ, TAKE NOTES AND ASK QUESTIONS. This course requires much reading and the
student is expected to have read the required materials when coming to class.
B. EXAM. The exam will consists of multiple-choice questions, true or false, problem-solving
and short answer questions based on the class lectures, discussions and the assigned
reading materials. 
C. FINAL EXAM. Comprehensive of all lectures and selected required reading materials. 

CLASSROOM POLICIES

1. Students are expected to have read the topics before coming to class. 
2. The students shall be responsible for keeping tracks of their absences. If you wish to
absent yourself in my class and you have an excusable reason, inform me.
3. Attend to your restroom needs before entering our class session.
4. I will be assigning cases from time to time.
5. We will have a Videocon through google meet every mwf 6-7pm until August 28, 2020.
After that, our Videocon meeting will only be every Mondays and Wednesdays. I will assign
Fridays for your self-study session.
6. I will give you a copy of my power point presentation at the end of the week whenever I
am scheduled to lecture for that particular week. Please be informed however, that I do not
put everything that I’m discussing in my ppt. Hence, you need to listen and take down notes.
