Probation and Parole Workflow1

This document outlines the workflow for probation and parole in the criminal justice system. It shows that after conviction and sentencing, some offenses result in mandatory imprisonment while others are probationable. For probationable offenses, an investigation is conducted and probation may be granted by the court with supervision by the Parole and Probation Administration. For imprisonment, an individual is held by the Bureau of Corrections or Bureau of Jail Management and Penology until their sentence expires. They may then petition for parole, which requires action by the Board of Pardons and Parole who may grant or deny parole. Parolees are supervised until termination or violation, which results in revocation proceedings.
