This Second Semester of NSTP or The NSTP

This document discusses a student's participation in their local community through the NSTP-CWTS 2 program. The student led coastal clean-up drives and drug/HIV awareness campaigns. During these activities, the student taught others about environmental conservation, proper waste disposal, and the dangers of drugs/HIV. The clean-ups improved the coastal area and removed garbage, while the campaigns spread knowledge to help others live productive, meaningful lives. Through community involvement, the student applied what they learned and helped develop responsible, engaged citizens.

This second semester of NSTP or the NSTP-CWTS 2 is more on community

engagement that requires and allow students to participate and get involve in their
community. In this way, the students will not only acquire the essential knowledge in
nation-building but also train and teach them various principles that will be helpful in the
development of their life and the community through their experience and participation.
This program is so helpful for it is one way for the students to learn and train to become
well-disciplined and effective citizens or individuals. Community involvement also help
the students become involved citizens. It also developed their talents and skills, aspire
them to become good leaders, develop their problem-solving skills and help them learn
through worthwhile and useful tasks.

Community involvement has a lot of benefits to give to the students or the youth.
It enables them to discover and understand the value of participation, community
development and nation-building. It engages students with the community,
and increases social or ecological awareness and responsibility. And it helps students
enhance their personal knowledge, grow from new experiences, and develop better
interpersonal communication skills.

As one of the NSTP-CWTS students, I also look for ways to involve or engage
myself in our community. I used what I have learned in this subject to effectively
participate in the community. I make sure that I can apply to myself what I have learned
in this subject to be a good citizen and share what I have learned to the others,
encourage them to participate and teach or remind them of their responsibility as
persons, as individuals and as citizens of this country.

The activities that I’ve chosen to get involved in are coastal clean-up drive, and
Drug and HIV awareness and prevention campaign. I choose the coastal clean-up drive
because in our area, as what I have noticed, since we live near the seashore, there are
lots of garbage ad different kinds of waste thrown in the coastal area and the Drug and
HIV awareness and prevention campaign because there are lots of teenagers in our
area that I think needs to be reminded and be aware of drugs and HIV or AIDs . I believe
that its better that they should know about it while they are still on their age right now so
that they become more aware and conscious about it as they grow up.
I have done my community involvement in Buho 1, Poblacion, Tabango, Leyte
where I lived. Since I don’t have any other classmates to work with, together with my
friends and cousins, we’ve done the tasks and activities properly, effectively, happily
and successfully. As a student who’ve undertaken the NSTP subject, I’ve done my best
to accomplish the task and lead my cousins and friends and teach them the importance
of cleaning, and drug or HIV awareness and prevention. I also encourage them to help
me and get involve in the community. I also share to them the importance of
environmental conservation and protection as well as the role of each of us in protecting
and taking care of our environment. As their “Kuya” or elder brother, I also teach them
what is drugs and HIV, its causes and effects, and how to prevent or avoid them. I also
introduce them to a better way of living life; a more productive, effective and meaningful
way. I encourage them to join me because I also want them to become good individuals
or good citizens in this country. Though I don’t really have all the knowledge to teach
them everything, but with what knowledge I have, I share it to them, so that I could help
them even in that simple way.

The first thing we do is the coastal clean-up drive. Together with my friends and
cousins, we picked the trashes we saw and put it inside the trash bag. We’ve noticed
how dirty the coastal area was and how it changed a lot. We remember 5 years ago
when we still play on that same area full of sand and so clean that you can even sit or
lay down there, and as time goes by, that turn into a very rocky and dirty place. While
picking up the trashes, I share to them the importance of cleaning and protecting our
coastal areas. To clean the coastal area and to stop throwing of garbage on the shore
can actually save marine lives. Aside from saving the marine lives, it can save our
environment (creating a safer environment). And aside from saving the environment, it
can save the future (creating a sustainable future). I also share to them how to dispose
waste properly and remind them about the 3R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. In that way,
we are not only cleaning the area, but we’re learning through experience and
participation. We take an hour of picking the trashes and cleaning the area and we
enjoyed it so much because as what the old saying goes, “the more, the merrier”. The
activity is not only to clean the coastal area but to instill to the minds of other youth the
knowledge they should have and to remind them of their duties and responsibilities.
