Summary of Learning

Examining Northcentral University’s (NCU) resources has opened my eyes to the immense

number of tools available to help students become successful scholars throughout their academic

journey. An example of one of these tools is NCU’s Academic Success Center which is full of multiple

resources that are sure to meet the needs of any new scholar. From coaching to writing to statistics, the

Academic Success Center has proven to be a resource that I will use throughout the course of my

doctoral studies. One particular area of focus I know I will use frequently is Academic Writer. Located

within the Academic Success Center, Academic Writer is divided into three sections to assist students

with learning, referencing and writing at the academic level. This resource provides: sample material,

tutorials, guides, research tools and reference generators which I plan to use in order to achieve my

professional and personal goals of becoming a better researcher, writer, and creditable business

professional. In order to meet these goals, I aspire to complete this program by following a 3-year

timeline and will use the Eisenhower matrix to help maintain balance between studies, work, family, and

other commitments. While this goal may seem ambitious for someone who has never written a

dissertation before, I plan to close my knowledge gap by utilizing the various support materials and

resources located within the Dissertation Center.

Conclusion

My personal exploration of NCU’s resources has shown me there are multiple tools available to

support the deliberate development of doctoral degree students. As I transition to becoming a

knowledge creator, I am cognizant of the importance of maintaining academic integrity and therefore

have the following questions: 1. what resources are available to assist with paraphrasing in order to

mitigate unintentional plagiarism and 2. when using Turnitin, what is an acceptable similarity index

percentage for this course? While starting this academic journey is both exciting and daunting, I look

forward to achieving the learning outcomes from this course while utilizing these resources.
