NEEDS OF ANIMALS

1. Food and Water- Animals need food in order to live. Without food, they will die. The type of food
needed by each animal differ from the others. Monkeys eat fruits and vegetables. Butterflies sip nectar
found inside the flowers. Carabao and cow eat grass. Frogs eat insects.

Animals also need water to drink. Water also keep their body cool.

2. Fresh Air- Just like humans, animals need to breathe fresh clean air. Without air, animals will die.
That is why cages, aquariums, and fishbowls have small openings where air can pass through. Do not
put animals in containers or cages that are completely closed or covered.

3. Shelter- Some animals make their own homes. Shelters protect animals from bad weather and from
their enemies. People provide homes for their pet animals. These home should be kept clean. The coop
is a home for the chickens, pigpen for the pigs, and stable for horses.

4. Love and Care- Animals have feelings, too. They also need love and care. Animals grow healthy
when they get what they need. Show your love and concern for them.
a. Feed them well so that they will grow strong and healthy?
b. Give them a bath once in a while.
c. Clean their homes. Do not spray insecticides. It might poison them.
d. Never hurt animals. Do not tease them. Do not throw stones or hit them with sticks.
e. Be careful when you play with your pets. Handle them with care.
f. Bring the pets to the veterinarian for check-up. A veterinarian is a doctor-specialist for
animals.
