Septic Tank & Soakage Design

The document provides calculations to design a septic tank and soakage pit system for 10 people. It calculates the required volumes and dimensions of the septic tank compartments and soakage pit based on design parameters like waste water production, sludge accumulation rate, infiltration rate of soil, and water table depth. The septic tank is designed to have a length of 3m, width of 1m, and height of 1.5m, providing a total volume of 4.5 cubic meters. Two soakage pits of 1.3m diameter and 4m depth are required since the water table is high.

Volume Required for Sludge Digestion:

Vd 0.21159 m3

Sludge Clear Depth 0.04 m .03m is adopted

The Total Clear Space depth: 0.375 m

Depth Required for sedimentation:

Vh/A: 0.184118 m
The total Clear space is the controlling factor in the Design.
The total effective depth is therefore the sum of the sludge depth (0.6m)
the clear space depth (0.375m), and the maximum submerged scum
depth (0.24m)

i.e., the total effective depth: 1.215 m

Calculation for Soakage pit:

Effluent flow from Septic Tank 900 Litters/Day

Long Term Infiltration rate: 30 Litters/m2 day

The Infiltration area required: 30 m2

Assumed Diameter: 1.3 m

The effective depth of the soak pit: 7.345596 m

After rounding up: 7m

How ever the ground water table is high then we have to use more than one soake pit.
