● To develop an awareness of the complexities of mental health nursing and an


understanding of how these are managed by nurses to ensure the best outcomes for
mental health service users.

722.622 Scenario Based Learning

Assessment Task/Activities:

Part One: Weeks 1 & 2

● Students will self-select groups of up to 5 students and complete a series of


scenarios over the course of three weeks.

● Using the marking criteria framework each group will complete one scenario per
week.

● The scenario will be completed on a document via ‘Collaborations’ in Canvas. Active


participation by each member of the group must be evident within the document.

● Each scenario must be completed by Wednesday of each week and submitted to


Canvas. Students will attend a tutorial on the Wednesday where you will have the
opportunity to discuss your completed scenario and plan with your group for the
following week. Your scenario will also be marked during the tutorial in collaboration
with the lecturers.

● All members of the group must be active in their participation including research,
investigation, development and presentation.

 Evidence of lack of participation will result in reduction of individual mark.

 Each group member must use a different coloured font to identify individual work.

Marking Criteria – Part 1 - Week 1 and 2

Part Two: Group presentation – Week 3

 On week 3 each group will complete a class presentation following the marking
criteria, on their final allocated scenario.

● On the allocated date each group will present their service user scenario to the class.
● Presentation will be of 15 minutes duration.
● Each individual must partake in the presentation.

Assessment Criteria

In order to complete the assessment each individual student will:

 Attend the introductory session where information on the SBBL will be outlined.

 Contribute to the group work on the collaborative doc

 Ensure all work is completed by the stated due date and time.

 Attend the final mandatory presentation.

Successful completion of this assessment will be graded according to individual student


involvement with the group process and content of both online scenario and group
presentation (see marking criteria attached.)

Only in extenuating circumstances may students apply for an extension as per MIT Student
Regulations.

Any non-attendance at the assessment information session or the final mandatory


presentation must be discussed with the Team Leader and will lead to a deduction in marks.

● Online group work using Google Docs on Canvas


● Group presentation

● Reference list to be included in online scenario document in APA 6 referencing style
