SUR OFFERING PRACTICE

COMPOSED BY PANCHEN LOSANG CHOKYI GYALTSEN

I go for refuge until I am enlightened


To the Buddha, the Dharma and the Supreme Assembly.
By the merit from giving and other perfections,
May I become a Buddha to benefit all sentient beings. (3x)
From the heart of oneself clarified as Chenresig, light emanates from the heart and invites the respected guests and to whom
we are karmically indebted. They sit on their desired seats.
OM VAJRA AMRTA KUNDALI HANA HANA HUM PHAT
OM SVABHAVA SHUDDHA SARVA DHARMA SVABHAVA SHUDDHO HAM
Everything becomes empty. Within the state of emptiness from the syllable BHRUM comes a jeweled vessel, vast and
spacious, inside of which the three syllables OM AH HUM dissolve into light and transform into an excellent aroma having
the five desirable qualities, filling the whole space and ground.

NAMA SARVA TATHAGATA AVALOKITE OM SAMBHARA SAMBHARA HUM (7x)
OM GANDHE KAMA GUNA PUJA IDAM KHA KHA KHAHI KHAHI (7x)
OM ARGHAM, PADYAM, PUSHPE, DHUPE ALOKE, GANDHE, NAIVIDYE, SHAPTA PRATICCHA SVAHA

While reciting the names, think that all sentient beings receive the respective benefits of each recitation. When each name is
recited with prostration, these benefits, according to Lama Atisha and his disciples, are as follows:
I prostrate to the Bhagavan Tathagata, the Victorious Many Jewelled One
(Think: the spirits and all other sentient beings are released from their disturbing thoughts, such as miserliness, as well as
their negative karma and its result, such as poverty, and enjoy with satisfaction whatever they desire)
I prostrate to the Tathagata Holy Beautiful Form
(Think: all beings are freed from their miserable bodies, and acquire perfect, strong bodies)
I prostrate to the Tathagata Infinite Bodied One
(Think: all beings are released from all physical illness, and enjoy the supreme taste)
I prostrate to the Tathagata Free from all Fear
(Think: All beings are liberated from the fear of being tormented by others and enjoy peace)
I offer and dedicate this stainless sur offering of supreme aroma endowed with the five desired qualities to all the Gurus,
Mind-seal Deities, Three Jewels, Dakinis and Dharma Protectors. (Visualise & make offerings)
To the King of the Smell Eaters, the “Joyous One” and so forth, to the host of smell eaters without exception, to all the
mother sentient beings of the six realms, to the assembly of the local deities and landlord spirits. To those whom we are
karmically indebted and those who seek with a grudge to revenge. And especially to those who have been killed,
committed suicide and have died between yesterday and today - to these intermediate state beings who having
abandoned the previous life form and not yet having found the next life form.
Due to this offering and dedication (of sur), after having satisfied the guests with the rain of this wish-fulfilling offering,
may all my obstacles be pacified. May I have long life without sickness and may my wealth increase. May I bring under
my control the sentient beings of the 3 realms. Please accomplish as I wish all my desired goals.
May all the sentient beings in the intermediate state also be liberated from fear and suffering. May they remember the
instructions of the Guru and take rebirth in Sukhavati. By having repaid all karmic debts, may all beings be endowed with
happiness and may all the local deities and landlord spirits always render their assistance without forgetting.
At the time of my death, may I be free from pain and suffering, and upon taking rebirth in the pure lands, may I work for
the benefit and happiness of all transmigratory beings. As soon as the appearance of the bardo arises, may I be shown
the unmistaken path by the eight Bodhisattvas. After taking rebirth in Sukhavati, may I guide the transmigratory beings
of the impure realms with my manifestations.
May everything be like the sky treasury. May there be no interruption to the enjoyments. May I be able to enjoy them
without any conflicts and harm.
As soon as I pass away from this life, may I take miraculous birth from the corolla of the lotus flower in the supreme pure
land of Sukhavati.

TAYATA OM PANTSI GRIYA AVABODHANI SVAHA


Multiplying mantra:

CHOM DAN DA DE ZHIN SHEG PA DRA CHOM PA YANG DAG PAR DZOG PAI SANG GYA NAM PAR NANG DZA O KYI
GYAL PO LA CHHAG TSHAL LO (1x or 3x)

JANG CHHUB SEM PA SEM PA CHHEN PO KUN TU ZANG PO LA CHHAG TSHAL LO (1x or 3x)

TADYATHA OM PANCHA GRIYA AVA BODHANI SAVHA OM DHURU DHURU JAYA MUKHE SVAHA (7x)

To actualise all our prayers as well as to multiply the benefits by 100,000:


CHOM DAN DA DE ZHIN SHEG PA DRA CHOM PA YANG DAG PAR DZOG PAI SANG GYA NGO WA DANG MON LAM
[THAM CHA RAB TU] DU PA GYAL PO LA CHHAG TSHAL LO (1x or 3x)

Due to the power of the blessings of the eminent Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the power of infallible dependent arising,
and the power of my pure special attitude, may all my pure prayers succeed immediately.
