CONSTRUCTION METHODS

EXCAVATION WORKS:

Excavation works for the building foundation and septic tank shall be performed by a
small sized excavator or manually. Dumping area of excavated materials shall be
stocked nearby to be used later to backfill the concreted foundation. Depth of
excavation shall be in accordance with the approved plans and specification.

FALSEWORK & FORMS:

Shoring of beams shall be selected coco lumber that is mature and sturdy. Sufficient
shoring materials shall be put in place and the system of support be thoroughly
inspected before cementing starts. Also the required clear distance of the inner form to
the reinforcing base shall be no less than 1 ½“ to have a concrete covering on
reinforcements of 1 ½“. Forms for columns, beams and suspended slab shall be ½ inch
thick marine plywood. Forms of columns and sides of beams may be removed in place
after 2 days from concrete pouring, the undersides only after 21 days.

Cover of 1.5 inches for beams and columns and 2 inches for footings shall be observed.
Splicing of main reinforcing bars in columns and beams shall not be all together in one
section, but on interval basis. Ample space shall be provided in tying of bars to allow a
free access of concrete during pouring activities.

CONCRETE WORKS:

Aggregates to be used for concreting works shall be clean and uniformly graded and
shall not be more than the required sizes needed. For footings and other thick concrete
sections, the maximum aggregate size shall be 2 inches, while for columns, beams and
slab, the maximum size shall be ¾ inch.

Mixing of concrete shall only be done using 1-bagger mixer.

The maximum mixing time per batch shall not be more than 2 minutes at a regular
revolution speed of the mixer. Water to be used in the concrete shall be barely enough
to produce concrete meeting the required slump.

Concrete vibrator shall be used in all concreting works. In other slim section where
vibrator cannot penetrate, steel bars pounding on concrete and wooden forms shall be
used to avoid honeycombs.

Concrete, as it begins to harden shall be thoroughly wetted and cured for a period as
stated in the specification. It shall not be allowed to dry prematurely especially those
exposed to direct sunlight such as the 2nd floor slab.
