4.1 Were you right?

Look back at your answers to Activity 3.4. Then look again at this picture. What happened
before this? What happened next? Tell the story to other students.

R/: The dogs were chasing a small animal. Spitz caught up with him and killed him with a
bite with his teeth. When Buck saw him, he attacked him and they started fighting very
hard. They hit hard, Buck bit Spitz in the legs very hard. Spitz was badly injured and the
other dogs also attacked him and killed him.

4.2 What more did you learn?

Write one word in each sentence.


1 Buck went to the food box and Spitz took his bed.

4.4 What’s next?
Look at the pictures in Chapter 4. Where is Spitz? What is going to happen next? How is
Buck going to feel? What do you think? Discuss these questions and make notes.

R/: Spitz does not appear in any of the images. He is not among the sledge dogs, because
he died. As Spitz isn’t there, Buck’s the new leader of the sledge dogs, he feels the
strongest, fastest, smartest and most important dog to pull the sledge and he is very happy
to guide the other dogs to work hard.
