Flower baby rattle

Crochet pattern
Design by Svitlana Feiesh

MATERIALS:
 Some cotton yarn in any shades of pink/red/purple for petals.
The weight of the yarn is 50 g = 180 mt (1,76 Oz = 197 yds).
I used Alize Bella for this rattle.

 Some cotton yarn in any shades of green.

 Some cotton in white or any shades of yellow for the central part.
 Rattle noise maker insert. Diameter x thickness: 33 mm (1,3") x
11 mm (0,43").
 Wooden ring. (I used beech teething ring 5,3 cm (2") in diameter)

TOOLS:
 1,5 mm crochet hook
 Stitch marker (optional)
 Yarn or tapestry needle

FINISHED SIZE: 12,5 cm (5 inches)

SKILL LEVEL: Very easy

1
NOTES:
1) All rounds are worked in a continuous spiral, unless instructed
otherwise.
2) You should always mark the end of the rounds either by means
of a stitch marker for crocheting in turning rows or use
additional thread of different color during crocheting in the
round.

3) You can also use organic cotton yarn for making this crochet
rattle but it should have approximately the same yarn thickness.

4) If you only have 2 mm crochet hook, you can work it too. In this
case the rattle will be a little bigger.

TERMINOLOGY (US):

Magic ring = magic round

ch - chain stitch
sc – single crochet
inc - increase
dec - decrease
sl st - slip stitch
BLO - back loop only = through the back loop (tbl)
X – indicates repeats
( ) - number of stitches for each round

INSTRUCTIONS:

FLOWER (central part)

With yellow
Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
Start marking the rounds.
Round 2: inc X 6. (12)
Round 3: (sc 1, inc) X 6. (18)
2
Round 4: (sc 2, inc) X 6. (24)
Round 5: (sc 3, inc) X 6. (30)
Round 6: (sc 4, inc) X 6. (36)
Round 7: BLO sc around. (36)
When you form regular stitches, you insert the hook through both
loops. With the hook in loops of the stitch, you can see one loop
closer to you (the front loop) and one loop farther from you (the
back loop). To crochet in the back loop of a stitch, insert your
crochet hook underneath the back loop only and make single
crochet around.

Round 8: sc around. (36)

Round 9: BLO (sc 4, dec) X 6. (30)

Round 10: (sc 3, dec) X 6. (24)

Round 11: (sc 2, dec) X 6. (18)
Round 12: (sc 1, dec) X 6. (12)
Round 13: (6 dec) X 6 (6) + 1 additional dec. (5)
Fasten off.

WOODEN RING
With green

Make a foundation chain for the piece of fabric on a wooden ring of

11 chains long. If you want to cover larger section of the wooden
ring or your ring is more than 2” in diameter, add additional chains
to your foundation chain to make the base or your crochet fabric
wider. (pic)

Start in the second chain from the hook. Work in rows. After each
round ch 1 (to give the row the proper height), turn and start in the
first one.

Row 1: 1 sc into each of the next 10 chains. (pic)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, 1 sc into each of the next 10 chains.

Repeat row 2 (11 times or as many times as you need) to cover the
ring and to be able to join both ends on the fabric together. Just
stretch it around the ring and measure how much you need, and
add rows as you go. (pic)

Then either sew the edges of this piece of fabric together on a ring
or just use the hook and connect them by sc or sl st.

Now attach all the parts of the rattle together. Start with petals. Sew
them to the central part of the flower one by one as it is shown
below. (pic)

Connect the petals to one another. Weave in yarn end, hiding each
tail at the petal itself. (pic)
4
Repeat with other petals the same way. (pic)

Attach the flower to the fabric on the wooden ring from the back
side at the bottom. Make sure that the rattle is attached to the
wooden ring steadily and it doesn’t bend over.

Congratulations!
You’ve just made an adorable flower rattle
