The document discusses Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) by answering several questions: 1. CLT aims to develop procedures for teaching language skills that acknowledge the interdependence of language and communication, with the goal of developing students' communicative competence. 2. CLT uses activities like dialogues, drills, repetition and texts to practice patterns and vocabulary. 3. CLT is based on the theory that language is a system for expression of meaning and interaction, not just grammar rules. 4. CLT differs from the Audiolingual Method in that it uses a functional-notional syllabus that is organized around meaningful tasks and contexts, rather than a linguistic syllabus based on order of

Watch the video and analyze it based on these questions.
1. What is the goal and characteristics of CLT?
2. What are types of activity and media used in CLT?
3. What is theory of language used in CLT?
4. What is theory of lang. Learning used in CLT?
5. What are the teacher’s roles and students’ roles in CLT?
6. What are the differences between CLT and Audiolingual Method?
7. Give your opinion about CLT.
Answer :
1. This method aims at developing procedures for the teaching of the four skills that
acknowledge the interdependence of language and communication. It aims at having
students become communicatively competent.(Yemen Times)

The goal of language teaching : Communicative Competece :

•Knowledge of the grammar, vocabulary, phonology, and semantics of the language
•Knowledge of the relationship between the language and its nonlinguistic (social)
context. •Knowledge of how to begin and end conversation (Discourse competence:
cohesion and coherence)
•Knowledge of strategies to compensate other weak areas.
2. Types of activity used in CLT :
-Dialogues and drills
- repetition and memorization
-pattern practice.
Media of activity used in CLT :
-text
- computers
3. Language is a system for the expression of meaning: primary func tion-interaction and
communication.
4. Activities involving real communication; carrying out meaningful tasks; and using
language which is meaningful to the learner promote learning
5. Learners roles
Learner as negotiator, interactor, giving as well as taking.
Teacher’s roles
Facilitator of the communication process, participants’ tasks, and texts; น needs
analyst, counselor, a process manager.
6. Communicative language teaching often uses a functional-notional syllabus. A
notional-functional syllabus is more a way of organizing a language learning
curriculum than a method or an approach to teaching. On the other hand,
Audiolingualism is a linguistic, or structure based approach to language teaching. The
starting point is a linguistic syllabus which contains the key items of phonology,
morphology, and syntax of the language arranged according to their order of
presentation.
7. According my opinion CLT presents passion and motivation to students in the
classroom. CLT is a learner who emphasizes the interests and needs of students. In
this world, where information communication and information technology have
advanced greatly, CLT can play an important role as an educator, but the use of
inadequate and appropriate teaching materials can damage the learning process. The
teacher’s monitoring ability must be very good. Teaching about the structural aspects
of language (grammar) is very difficult to practice in this method. The CLT approach
focuses only on fluency but not on accuracy.
