Assignment For Business Intelligence

This document contains information about a group project for a business intelligence course. The project is titled "Educational Data Mining & Students’ Performance Prediction". It lists the names and student IDs of the four group members. It then provides descriptions of key concepts for the project, including: - Database Management System (DBMS) - used for storing and managing organizational data - Business Intelligence (BI) - converts raw data into meaningful and actionable intelligence - Similarities and differences between DBMS and BI

DBMS (Database Management System)
A Database Management Software or DBMS software is used for storing, manipulating, and
managing data, such as format, names of fields, and record and file structures in a database
environment. Users can construct their own databases using a DBMS to satisfy their business
requirements. Database design also supports the creation, design, implementation, and
maintenance of an organization-wide data management system. The purpose of a database is to
store different data in several ways. Some of the types of data that can be stored in a database are:
Textual data, Numerical data, Binary data and Data and time.
To communicate database updates and queries, DBMS language is used. Such as
Data Definition Language, Data Manipulation Language, Data Control Language, and Transaction
Control Language.
  Merits of a DBMS
- Simplified Data Sharing, Enhanced Data Safety, Improved Data Integration, Better Decision-
Making, improved Efficiency, minimized data inconsistency and improved data access.
 Demerits of a DBMS
- Increased costs, management complexity, maintaining currency, and frequent upgrade.
BI (Business Intelligence)
BI (Business Intelligence) is a set of processes, architectures, and technologies that convert raw
data into meaningful information that drives profitable business actions. It is a suite of software
and services to transform data into actionable intelligence and knowledge. It has a direct impact on
organization's strategic, tactical and operational business decisions. BI supports fact-based decision
making using historical data rather than assumptions and gut feeling.
BI tools perform data analysis and create reports, summaries, dashboards, maps, graphs, and charts
to provide users with detailed intelligence about the nature of the business.
 Merits of a BI
- Fast accurate reporting, valuable business insights, competitive analysis, Better data quality,
increased customer satisfaction, identifying market trends, increased operational efficiency, and
improved decision making.
 Demerits of a BI
- Data breaches, high prices, difficulty analyzing different data sources, poor data quality, and
resistance to adoption.

 The basic differences of the DBMS and business intelligence.

 The similarities of the DBMS and Business Intelligence.

- The DBMS and BI are dependent on the data to perform their tasks.
- The DBMS and BI use different types of queries.
- The DBMS and BI will increase the productivity.
- The DBMS and BI uses indexing data’s.
