Module on Use of Adverbs (Adverbs of Place and Tim) in
Sentences

Mother: Yes, Jenny. They come to sell their products

around the town. Here, please carefully
put these fish and vegetables in the basket.

Jenny: Why did you buy plenty of fish and

vegetables, Mother? Are you going to cook
all of these?

Mother: No, my dear. We will put some in the

refrigerator. We can cook them the
following day.

Jenny: All right, Mother. Lets go home now.

I’m excited to taste the food you will cook
for us today.

Mother: Sure, I will cook pinakbet, your favorite

dish

What is It

An Adverb is a part of speech that modifies a verb,

an adjective and another adverb.

Kinds of Adverbs:
1. Adverbs of Place – always talks about the location
where the action of the verb is being carried out.
-It answers the question Where?
-It can be directional. For example: up, down,
north, southeast, etc.
-It can refer distances. For example: nearby, far,
miles apart, etc.
Another examples:
there away here
everywhere behind inside
forward upward
I can see a lot of vendors everywhere.
Where are the vendors?
What word in the sentence that answers the question
“where”?
Everywhere is an adverb of place that answers the
question “where”

Yesterday morning, Maria and Jenny went to buy some

things in the market.
When did Maria and Jenny go to buy something in the
market?
Yesterday morning is an adverb of time that answers the
question “when”.
2. Adverbs of Time – tell us when an action happened, but
also for how long, and how often.
Examples:
For how long: all day, not long, for a while, since last year

Adverbs of time answers the question “When”?

Another Examples:

yesterday today tomorrow

last Monday in July in the morning

Yesterday morning, Maria and Jenny went to buy some

things in the market.

When did Maria and Jenny go to buy something in the

Yesterday morning is an adverb of time that answers
