Every staff member in an agency speaks & acts for some part
of the agency’s function, & the caseworker represents the
agency in its individualized problem solving help.
ü Caseworker not an independent professional practitioner
ü Caseworker speaks & acts for the agency
ü Psychologically identified with its purpose & policies
ü Caseworker while representing his/her agency is first &
foremost a representative of his/her profession. He/she
must know & be committed with feeling to the philosophy
that guides the practice of the social work profession.
The Process
In order to understand what casework must include in its problem-solving
process, it is necessary to consider first the kinds of challenges &
blockings which occur in people’s normal problem-solving efforts.
Ø If necessary tangible means & resources are not available to the person
Ø Out of ignorance or misapprehension about the facts of the problem or
the facts of existing ways of meeting it.
Ø If the person is depleted or drained of emotional or physical energy.
Ø Some problems arouse high feelings I person-emotions so strong that
they overpower his reason & defy his conscious controls
Ø Problems maybe within the person, he may have become subject toor
victim of emotions
Ø Have not developed systematic habits or orderly method of things &
planning
