Pros and Cons of Technology

Technology has both benefits and drawbacks for society. It allows widespread sharing of information and improved communication through devices like smartphones and the internet. However, overuse of technology is linked to less in-person social interaction and the development of social skills online rather than face-to-face. While technology has advanced healthcare and connectivity, it can also cause social isolation, job displacement as robots perform more tasks, and reduced privacy and competency in humans overly reliant on internet answers. Whether technology's impacts are positive or negative depends on how it is used and the perspectives that shape continued technological development.

Pros and Cons of technology

Technology is one of the major forces transforming our lives, allowing us to share
information that we would not be able to access on our own. Our whole world is
immersed in the latest technological advances, but are these advances helping
us?

Take eating at a restaurant as an example. Nowadays, it is rare to see people

across the table from each other holding an actual conversation. People are so
caught up texting, posting on social media and checking emails, that they forget
those who are sitting right in front of them.

In today’s society, no one communicates verbally anymore. Instead, people think

it is acceptable to hide behind the screen of their cell phone or computer to avoid
confrontation or conflict. Another adverse effect of texting and emailing is the
lack of emotional sentiment and body language that is usually expressed in an
intimate personal conversation. Texting has become a way of life, and verbal
communication is becoming extinct.

Social media has also significantly changed how we communicate. Today, we

interact through the Internet. Even though social media has given each and every
one of us the opportunity to connect with people from around the world, at the
same time social media has brought critical changes to the everyday person.
Teenagers are now developing their social skills online rather than in person.

This shows that our society may be improving with its technological
advancements, but, slowly, people are becoming too attached to their gadgets.

But is technology always a good thing or is it a double edged sword? Speaking

about the pros of technological progress, it gives us access to more information.
The Internet might be the most significant social village that humanity has created
in history. It is an informational resource that allows us to experience different
perspectives, ideas, and cultures from all over the world. You can receive real-
time updates of news stories, play games, or chat with someone who is on the
other side of the planet. It is a straightforward experience that lets us access a
wealth of knowledge. Thanks to technology, you can access this information in
the comfort of your home. You could drink some coffee as you read the news.
There are even ways to stream what you get from the Internet to other devices to
maximize your consumption.
Secondly, it improves communication: Technological advancement has led to
improved communication through such things as the internet and mobile
technology. People can get in touch with friends and family from just about any
corner of the world.

Thirdly, technological advancement has led to improved healthcare through

advancement such as organ transplant, a fete that was previously unavailable.
Moreover, technological progress improved housing and lifestyle, gave us
convenience in education and Technology has made processes more efficient
which has led to the reduction of wastage and improvement of efficiency in
business and government.

But, of course, there are cons of technology. First of all, technology has led to
social isolation especially among the youth who spend most of their time in social
networking sites.

Secondly, technological advancement has led to the creation of such things as

robots that can literally perform most of the functions that were previously
performed by man. This means these robots are slowly replacing humans in the
workplace.

3. Reduced competency: Technological advancement has led to reduced

competency by humans who depend a lot on the technology. People no longer
put in any effort because all the answers are on the internet.

4. Weapons of mass destruction: Technology has led to the creation of weapons

of mass destruction such as atomic and nuclear weapons that are lethal and can
cause mass damage to humanity. Weapons such as those dropped at Hiroshima
and Nagasaki were created from technological advancement.

5. Causes pollution: Technology has led to the development of vehicles and

planes that cause air pollution and water pollution on various levels.

6. Reduced privacy: Technology, through such things as the internet, have led to
reduced privacy among the global population. Today, people can monitor you
from the comfort of their living rooms even if you are a thousand miles away
using technology.

Technology on its own is not good or evil. We must be disciplined with

technology. Our perspectives will help to shape the next generation and how they
evolve tech to fit their world.
