Thanks a lot for your sweet letter. I am well. Hope you are also keeping well with the members
of your dear family. I am very happy that you are very much interested to know about my native
land. Now I am giving you a short account of it.
Our country is situated in south-east Asia. She got her freedom from Pakistan in 1971. sacrificing
three millions of her brave sons and daughters. Bangla is our mother tongue. There are some
tribal languages too. Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate. There are six seasons here. It is
cris-crossed by many rivers. The main rivers of our country are the Padma. the Meghna, the
Jamuna and the Karnafuli. The land of our country is plain and fertile. Agriculture is the main
occupation of the people in Bangladesh. Most of the people live on agriculture. People of
different religions like the Muslims, the Hindus, the Buddhists, and the Christians live here in
peace and amity. About eighty five percent people are Muslims. People living here have
hospitality, fellow- feelings and strong family tie. Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. It is known
as the city of mosque. The country is famous for cultural activities. People observe religious
festivals, Pahela Baishakh, the Independence Day, the Shaheed Day and the Victory Day with
enthusiasm and due respect. This country is also famous for its uncommon scenic beauty. The
Cox's Bazar sea-beach the Sundarbans, the tea garden of Sylhet and the Shat Gambuj Mosque at
Bagherhat etc are the chief attraction. I am proud of living in such a beautiful country.

A LETTER TO MY FRIEND ABOUT HOW TO IMPROVE ENGLISH.
08 May, 2021
15 Sadar Road, Barishal
Dear Sifat,
I got your letter of the 5th instant yesterday. I was really beside myself with joy to have a
letter from you after a lapse of about six months. You asked for some practical hints on
how you can improve your English. Here I am writing about it.
You know English is an international language. To have a good command of English, you
have to read and practise English quite a lot everyday. You can read English dailies,
magazines, journals, story books etc. From your reading, you will learn how sentences are
formed in English. If you fail to understand any word, look up the word in a good
dictionary. 'Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary of Current English' is the most
recommended book in this regard. A dictionary will help you to know the meanings of
words in their right context. This will also increase your vocabulary. To speak English
better, you need to speak in English when you are with your friends or teachers. You can
also listen to the BBC, CNN and Aljazeera news on television and radio. This will surely
improve your listening skill. To improve your writing skill, you need to maintain a diary in
English and practise writing on different topics. If you do all these, I think your English
will improve within a short time.
No more today. Try your way up. Allah might crown you with success.
Yours ever
Rawnak
A LETTER TO MY FRIEND TELLING HER WHAT I INTEND TO DO
AFTER MY SSC EXAMINATION.
15 April, 2021
15, Sadar Road, Barishal
Dear Pritha,
Your sweet letter has just anchored the shore of my heart. I am thankful to the Almighty
having informed that you are hale and hearty. In your letter you have expressed your
eagerness to know what I intend to do after my SSC examination.
Perhaps our examination will end on 15 March, 2021. Before the result will be published I
will have a long vacation of about two months. I will not idle away these days. I have
already chalked out to spend these days in three parts. Firstly I will visit my village
relatives whom I have not seen for a long time. While staying at village, I will educate the
illiterate villagers. I will make them aware of the necessity of good health, family
planning, and scientific method of cultivation. Then I will visit the eastern parts of our
country, the charming places of Chittagong Hill Tracts, the longest sea beach of the world
named Cox’s Bazar and the tea gardens of Sylhet.
You better know that I have all along been weak in English. Later I intend to spend some
days in brushing up English reading some English novels, newspapers and practising
spoken English. I don’t know how far I will succeed, but I will try my level best.
I shall be highly delighted if you manage to accompany me.
With best wishes.
Your loving friend
Sinthi

A LETTER TO MY FRIEND DESCRIBING AN ACCIDENT.

April 01, 2017

115, Sadar Road. Barisal.
Dear Sara,
It is quite long since I have heard from you. I also could not write to you as I was upset due to a
serious accident of my bosom friend. Now I am writing to you about the accident that took place
before my eyes few days ago. It took place on last Monday in front of our school between a
rickshaw and a car. I was returning from school at 1 p.m. and saw a rickshaw proceeding towards
our school at a good speed. A car was also coming from the opposite direction at a great speed. It
seemed that the car driver was a bit careless. The rickshaw driver tried his best to avoid the
accident but in vain. The car dashed against the rickshaw and broke it down. I ran to the spot in
the twinkling of an eye. I saw a girl of my own age fell under the wheel of the car and growing.
The rickshaw puller also got serious injury. After much queries I found that the girl was none
other than our classmate Sania. Meanwhile the people around took them Barisal Medical College
Hospital. There the doctors and nurses took every care of them. At about 6 p.m. he opened her
eyes and looked at us but the rickshaw puller passed away at 7 p.m. in the hospital.
I never saw such a heart-rending sight in my life. It left a deep impression on my life. I still get
horrified when I remember the tragic accident.
Convey my deep regards to your parents. With love and best wishes to you. No more today.
Yours ever
Debjani

A LETTER TO MY FRIEND INFORMING ABOUT THE BAD EFFECT
OF SMOKING.
08 May, 2021
15 Sadar Road, Barishal
My dear Fahim,
I am very much shocked to know that you have recently been addicted to smoking. Really
it is very alarming and panic. But you must know that smoking is one of the most harmful
and dreadful habits of a man's life. It is equally harmful to health, economy and
environment. One puff of cigarette smoke contains 15 billion poisonous particles like
arsenic, nicotine, carbon mono oxide, etc. Smoking causes blood pressure, lungs cancer
and various respiratory diseases. It may harm kidney, brain or even every organs of the
body. Smoking also irritates our eyes and offends nose severely. Some experts opine that
one cigarette smoke slows down three seconds longevity of life. A smoker can never lead
a healthy and happy life. It can be clearly said that smoking is similar to take poison. So, I
would like to advise you to give up smoking in no time and do not mix with evil company.
I do believe that you must give up this evil habit very soon and be studious and follow the
rules of health.
No more today. With my good wishes to you.
Yours loving brother,
Shahed

regularly been practising grammar questions of Bangla and English. I think I will do well
in both subjects. In the meantime, I have solved different questions of quite a good
number of schools from the test papers. Special online classes are also being taken by our

A LETTER TO MY FRIEND DESCRIBING ABOUT THE CO-
CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES OF MY SCHOOL.

105, Bagura Road, Barishal.
Dear Tanha,
Hope you are well by the grace of the Almighty. In your last letter you have expressed
your eagerness to know about the co-curricular activities of my school. Now I am
presenting a short description of the co-curricular activities of my school before you.
Besides academic activities, our school has a fair reputation for co-curricular activities.
We have literary club, debating club and English language club. Each of the clubs is
conducted and guided by an expert teacher of our school. I am a member of debating club.
Besides annual spots and prize giving ceremony, we organize a cultural function every
year. We enjoy dramas and melodious songs performed by ourselves. We are lucky
enough to have a big playground outside the school campus. We regularly play football,
cricket and hokey there. Our school has a skilled cricket team which has been champion in
divisional and national level inter school competition.
Our school has a long tradition of scouting. Moreover, we go on a study tour every year
and publish annual school magazine regularly. I think, co-curricular activities play an
important role in shaping our character and help enjoy a sound body and a sound mind.
Please write to me soon telling about the co-curricular activities in your school. No more
now.

A LETTER TO MY FRIEND DESCRIBING THE PICNIC WHICH WE
ARRANGED LAST WEEK.
16 April, 2021
15 Sadar Road, Barishal
Dear Maisha,
Thanks a lot for your sweet note. In it you have expressed your eagerness to know about
the picnic which we arranged last week. Let me give a description of the picnic.
It was 10 April, 2021. We decided to go on a picnic. We were a party of one hundred fifty
students including forty of our teachers. Our destination was the mausoleum of the father
of the nation, Banghabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Tungipara. We hired four
luxurious buses and started our journey at about 7 a.m. with all necessary utensils and
materials. The day was fine and sunny and we reached there before the expected time. We
planned to cook our meal on the spot ourselves. One of our social science teachers has a
reputation as an expert cook. He supervised and directed the cooks to cook some delicious
dishes. In the meantime some of us strolled about to see the memorial of the father of the
nation. We were amazed to see the tomb of Banghabandhu along with his parents. There
were a library, a museum, and an open space for the visitors. At about 2 p.m. e sat down
to eat a hearty meal of appetizing dishes. After some rest we arranged a cultural
programme. At about 5 p.m. we packed up for our return journey and reached home
safely.
No more today. Covey my best regards to your parents and love to your youngers.
Yours ever
Sadia
