will help you facilitate the teaching-learning activities specified in each Most
Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face
encounter between you and learner. This will be made available to the learners
with the references/links to ease the independent learning.

2. Explain that authentic dialogue means accepting others even if they are

II. Background Information for Learners

According to Revagordo (2017), we all live in the world surrounded by

different people with different background and personality. Relating with others
and settling our differences is not always an easy task but it is a task that we have
to embrace since we all desire to live peacefully in a world.

A person’s ability to engage in meaningful interactions with other people, his

or her surroundings, and other things around him or her, is rooted in the human
capacity for self-awareness and transcendence. Intersubjectivity refers to the
shared awareness and understanding among persons. It is made possible by the
awareness of the self and the other. (Abella, 2016)

A deep and genuine relationship between persons is called dialogue.

Dialogue happens when two persons truly acknowledge each other’s presence
and treat each other as equals. Moreover, human interactions determine the
development of individuals and societies. Social interactions define the
development of individual ideas and characteristics, while the welfare of society is
founded on the maintenance of meaningful and harmonious relationships among
its members. (Ibid.)

Remember

In participation, we share the humanness of the other. As a famous

Christian song goes, “Walang sinoman ang nnamamatay para sa sarili lamang.
Walang sinoman ang nabubuhay para sa sarili lamang.” Being human means
we are in relation with other human beings who might be different from us. Yet,
regardless of the differenes, our humanness is enriched as we participate in a
community. This relationship can be fruitful if based on mutuality, sincerity,
and acceptance. Buber, Wojtyla and various philosophers dreamt of equality,
actualization, and participation. (Ramos, 2016)
As we undergo the process of knowing ourselves, we acknowledge the
fundamental goodness of our nature and share it with others. (Ibid.)
