CPB 30303 OIL AND FAT PROCESS TECHNOLOGY


SEMESTER FEB 2021

INFO:
Palm oil and related products are the second largest export of Malaysia, and this will lead to
the increasing of production of palm oil in order to fulfill the demands. Despite the obvious
benefits, oil palm also significantly contributes to environmental degradation and waste
disposal. The solid wastes may consist of empty fruit bunches (EFB), mesocarp fruit
bunches (MF) and palm kernel shells (PKS) while the liquid wastes combined with the
wastes from cooling water and sterilizer known as Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME).

TASK:
You have to do this task in group consist of FOUR (4) students for each group. Each group
has to work out on the line tracing of major equipments and to think creatively on how to
produce a value – added product from the solid wastes or liquid wastes which comes
from palm oil processing. The product must have the characteristic of green technology
and entreprenuership. You are required to do literature survey and find information about
the utilization of wastes from the palm oil mill processing.

Note: You will be provided with A3 size of P&ID of dry fractionation, separator reactor,
bleacher, and deodorizer process plant. Each process must have group responsible for the
task.

CONTENTS OF PROJECT REPORT:
 Introduction
o Background and overview of the project (support from literature), problem
statement
 Description of process path (including process flow, picture or diagram)
 P&ID tracing and identification
 Problem determination
o Equipment, piping, condition, product etc.
 Green technology element
o Effect to environment, pollution reduction
 Entreprenuership element
o Commercialization value, costing
 Conclusions
 References

RULES:
 Each group have to submit:
o Project report
o Poster
o Video presentation
 Proposal sheet must be submit to get approval of the topic choosen by each groups.
The topic must not similar with the other groups.
 Submission datelines:
o Project Report : Week 12
o Poster & Video : Week 13
 Format project report:
o Font : Arial
o Spacing : 1.5
o Size : 11
o Paragraph : Justify
o Must include table of content with page number, all references must cited in
the text from official citation and follow APA format.
o Must attach submission COVER PAGE, REPORT and POSTER in ONE
file.

 Format poster
o Size of poster is A3 or A4 and portrait orientation.

 Format video presentation


o Video must be submitted in YOUTUBE or using (CD or CDR)
 Final submission
o Project report, poster presentation and cover page must be submitted
together in ONE MANAGEMENT FILE
o Make sure the submission cover page for project report, video and poster is
also attached.
o Incomplete documents will be penalized.

DISTRIBUTION OF MARKS:
Project Report : 45%
Video Presentation : 40%
Poster : 15%
