The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) have
an ambition to modernise the prison estate to create a safer, more efficient, and Main Contractor:
rehabilitative environment.

As part of this ambition, the MoJ and HMPPS authorised the construction of a new
Category C resettlement prison located in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Architect:
HMP Five Wells is one of Bennett Architectural’s latest construction projects which HLM and Pick Everard
utilises the Modern Method of Construction (MMC) Design for Manufacture and
Assembly. Programme Dates:
Due to progressive early design, which is intrinsic to DfMA, the project necessitated March 2020 – Feb 2021
early engagement with Kier which began in September 2018 and was followed by
18 months of collaboration before we were then awarded the scheme. Bennett Architectural Team:
For this project, we designed and installed Kawneer’s AA100 Curtain Walling and Jayne Kemp
non-cell windows and door systems which had to meet the MoJ’s high specifications
and security standards without compromising on the amount of natural light and Matt Tideswell
performance.

Sequencing was also key due to some of the security features adjacent to the

To improve project supervision, quality assurance, safety inspection and snagging,

Dalux Field was utilised on site to benchmark and sign off the installed products

Kier Construction have already won a number of awards for HMP Five Wells. The
accolades that the project has won over the course of 2020 are a testament to the
excellence of the site team and its infallible ability to work in partnership.
