DIFFICULTY INDEX

Number of students who answered each item = 21

No. of Correct
Item No. % Correct Difficulty Level Action
Answers
1 10 47.62 Medium Retain
2 5 23.81 High Revise/Improve
3 18 85.71 Low Discard

Discussion:

 The item number with high number of students who got the correct answer falls into Low Level
of Difficulty so the item number or the test question should be disregarded or revised.
 Learners have different level of comprehension in a certain question, if the learners are not able
to get a 100 percent correct answer in a certain question then it means that your question is
average and should be retained.
 There are test items that are easy and difficult and I do believe that it shouldn’t be thrown out
because there is a specific distribution of percentage in constructing a test question.

DISCRIMINATION INDEX

1 10 5 0.71 0.48 Retain
2 5 8 0.62 -0.29 Reject
3 18 10 1.33 0.76 Retain

Discussion:

 If the lower group got the high number of correct answers than the upper group, it will
contribute to low item discrimination.
 The cause for a negative discrimination index is when the lower group got the most correct
answers than the upper group.
