in East Africa focused on offering convenient, accessible, and appropriate financial services
specifically to MSBs. With the wealth of data collected through our platform, we are well positioned
to connect business owners to the financial and non-financial services they need in order to grow
their business, whether it be credit, savings, insurance, payments, logistics, customer acquisition, or
financial & HR management. Due to our deep knowledge of our customers, Numida is becoming

The Role:
We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to own the evolution of our backend
services. You are a great fit if you’re comfortable as an individual contributor with aspirations to
grow and lead a team. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer you’re comfortable with data
modeling, infrastructure management and debugging, whether that is our code or diving into
third-party libraries to understand the root cause of a bug.

Senior Backend Software Engineer

● Have impact. We’re a small team so you’ll have responsibility and ownership over our
engineering culture and the products we ship to our clients.

What You Would Work On:

● Closely collaborate with the product team to plan and evaluate backend changes to support our
client-facing mobile app and internal loan management tools.
● Evolve our backend infrastructure as we scale beyond Uganda.
● Work with our data science team to refine and operationalize our credit scoring model.
● Evaluate new technology choices as we build out additional products to ensure we continue to
move fast and deliver value to our clients.
● Build up a team of backend engineers to support our growth by providing mentorship and
management.

Your Skills and Qualifications:

● 4+ years of working python and strong python fundamentals


● Familiarity with Django or another MVC-style web framework.
● Strong data modeling skills including experience optimizing data models and queries in the
context of an ORM (preferably Django).
● Strong written communication skills and experience reviewing code.
● Past experience mentoring junior developers.
● Familiarity with AWS infrastructure (EC2/VPCs, RDS, Elasticache) a plus
● Experience scaling web infrastructure a plus

diverse team based in Kampala, alongside Numida staff in San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver.
Employee share options are also part of the compensation for this position, giving you an ownership
