Title : Responsibilities of Waitress
Meeting :1
Time : 3 x 40 minutes

1. Lesson : Waitress Duties and Responsibilities

2. Lesson Objective : Students will learn the duties and responsibilities of waiters

The duties of a waiter/waitress include:

 Welcoming all guests who come to the restaurant (greeting)


 Invite guests to sit
 Offers a menu that is in the restaurant
 Serving food and drinks that have been ordered by guests
 Up-selling by offering desserts
 Give total bill to guest
 Taking dirty glasses and plates

The responsibilities of the waiter/waitress include:

 Responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of the restaurant


 Responsible for all restaurant equipment and supplies inventory for service
 Responsible to the Head Waiter for all tasks that have been given

3. Procedure : Give students a handout of the following duties and responsibilities of the
waiter/waitress. Read and ask students to explain individually to check their understanding.

4. Study : Students must work together in pairs and read the following dialogue, which the
following dialogue explains how the duties of a waiter. One student reads guest roles and
another student reads waiters.

Waiter : good morning sir ?


Guest : good morning
Waiter : how may I assist you?
Guest : sure, I would like to have lunch here, do you have available space for me?
Waiter : yes sir. We have available spaces table no 4
Guest : seems great,
Waiter : let' me take u there. Follow me then, here is your table sir
Guest : thank you
Waiter : here is our menu sir, and just additional information we have special menu
for today is Chicken loose,
Guest : loose chicken? Seems new for me, well let me try then, Chicken loose 1
Waiter : What about your drink sir?
Guest : I want to order mango juice please .
Waiter: al right sir, I would like to repeat your order, 1 chicken and 1 mango juice.
Guest : perfect
Waiter : all right sir, we need 15 minutes to prepare your order, so please wait
Guest : Sure, no worries

5. Paired Practice : Practice using the expressions above by role playing, one person taking
on the role of a guest and the other person taking on the role of a hotel staff. For
additional practice, switch roles using the information you want. Such as changing the
restaurant name, order name, etc

Waiter : Good evening Sir, welcome to Dewata Restaurant.


Guest : Good evening.
Waiter : How may I help you, sir?
Guest : I want to have my dinner. Can I have a table for one please?
Waiter : Yes sir. Please come this way.
Guest : Alright, thank you.
Waiter : Please be seated sir. Here is the menu. I will return in a moment to take your order.
Guest : Oh, okay. *After 15 minutes.
Waiter : Are you ready to order sir?
Guest : Yes, sure.
Waiter : What would you like to have Sir?
Guest : I would like to have spring rolls and chicken steak with mushroom sauce.
Waiter : Yes, sir. And what would you like for the drink?
Guest : Hmm. I would like to have a glass of orange juice please.
Waiter : Sure sir. Please wait a moment.
Guest : Okay. *After 20 minutes.
Waiter : Here are your foods sir. Enjoy your dinner.
Guest : Sure, thank you. *After the guest has finished to eat.
Guest : Excuse me, waiter.
Waiter : Yes sir.
Guest : May I have the bill?
Waiter : Here is your bill sir.
Guest : Okay, thank you.
Waiter : You are welcome Sir and thank you for visiting our restaurant.
Additional Activities and Exercises

1. Group Work

Divide the class into groups of 2 or 3. Students work together to develop grammatically
correct plays about how to carry out their duties and responsibilities when serving guests
who come to a restaurant. In the play, students make or plan what and how to act in
accordance with the duties and responsibilities of the waitress. Teacher judge plays based
on grammar and language use, and how they understand the duties and responsibilities of
the waitress in the play.

2. Discussion

Have a discussion about how to be a waitress who carries out her duties and
responsibilities well? What do you need to be a waitress? What kind of attitude should
you have to guests? What are the consequences of violating these duties and
responsibilities?

3. Work Sheet 1 – Duties


Explain the duties of the following waiter/waitress using your own sentences and give
any examples that can explain it either in the form of dialogue or anything else

1. Welcoming all guests who come to the restaurant (greeting)
