Warning notice system
This manual contains notices you have to observe in order to ensure your personal safety, as well as to prevent
damage to property. The notices referring to your personal safety are highlighted in the manual by a safety alert
symbol, notices referring only to property damage have no safety alert symbol. These notices shown below are

DANGER

Software Requirements
TIA Portal Test Suite V16 Advanced is a TIA Portal optional package, which requires the
following products to be installed:
● STEP 7 Professional V16 Update 1
To use the Application Test concept, you also need the following package to be installed:
● SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM Advanced V3.0 Update1

Hardware Requirements and other System Requirements

● All the hardware and system requirements of STEP 7 Professional V16 Update 1 and if
applicable, S7-PLCSIM Advanced V3.0 Update1 apply.

Information that could not be included in the online help and important information about
product characteristics.

Working with a project in TIA Portal V16, which was created in TIA Portal V16 Update 1 and inclusively
Test Suite Advanced
● Opening the project in V16 is possible without Test Suite package installed.
● In TIA Portal V16, the application will crash with the below mentioned scenarios:
– When you click "Overview" window.
– When you click “Online&Diagnostics“ in portal view
– Working (Copy/Paste/Delete/Drag and Drop) with user folders available under “Libraries
(Project/Global) -> Master copies“ which has rule sets / test cases in it.

Application Test Usage

Application test uses SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM Advanced and its API in order to run the test cases:
● Minimum and Maximum cycle time values are always taken from TIA Portal project.
● Using huge data blocks: SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM Advanced APIs can update only 500000
tags (entries in DBs) for each download and it is a must for Application test to retrieve the
updated values of each PLC cycle to generate the test results. Hence, user must ensure the
DB entry size before running tests. Else, the test case execution will be aborted.
● Cycle time for the very first cycle will be always less than the Minimum cycle time value
specified by the user in TIA portal project.
● Working with I/O values: Please refer section 8.13 in the function manual of SIMATIC S7-
PLCSIM Advanced V3.0 Update 1
● Performing tests for unpublished variables of software units are not supported. Execution
will be terminated with an error.
● In this version, usage of arrays in test case editor are only supported with single dimensions.
● Additionally, all the restrictions from SIMATIC S7-PLCSIM Advanced V3.0 Update 1 are
also applicable to run the tests.
● It is not possible to copy test cases from one TIA Portal instance to another TIA Portal
instance / Reference projects.
● Changing the UI language will not be reflected automatically on the opened editors,
available undo/redo text messages and messages available in “Test Results” tab. It is
required user to reopen the editor.

● Test case execution will be cancelled by the system, if the user tries to run the test case
which uses Data blocks / Data block members / tags defined using the characters other than
English alphabets, Numeric and Special characters like !, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ), _, {, }, [, ],
|, \, :, ;, ", ’, <, ?, /.
● For more information, please refer the online help document under TIA Portal Test Suite >
Application test > Test Case Execution Failure

Styleguide Usage
● Navigating to Block property page using “Go to” available in violation messages which are
stored in a log file under “Common data\Logs” is not supported.
● Shortcut <Ctrl+G> for navigation from Test Results tab / log file will not respond for the first
time.
● It is not possible to copy rule sets / rules from one TIA Portal instance to another TIA
instance / Reference projects.
● Changing the UI language will not reflect the change automatically in the editors that are
open in available undo/redo text messages and messages available in “Test Results” tab.
It is required user to re-open the editor.
● TIA Portal application will crash when the user performs “Autofill” to add the rows about the
selected line and executes undo and redo operation.
● Expand All option provided in the rule set editor tool bar will expand only for the rules which
are in visibility.
