Linear Regression Assignment

The document provides instructions for a linear regression graphic organizer assignment, asking students to analyze a dataset on students' missing assignments and class grades to determine the relationship between the two variables. Students are asked to create a Prezi graphic organizer with sections for the question, characteristics of a regression line, an example using provided data to create an X-Y table and graph with trendline, and an interpretation statement describing the regression line.

Linear Regression Graphic Organizer Assignment

Standard being practice: Represent data on two quantitative variables on a scatter plot, and
describe how the variables are related.
Directions: Using Prezi, students will have the freedom to create any type of graphic organizer
with the following 5 headings:
1) Question
a. Write the following question under “Question”: What is simple linear
regression?
b. Explain what you believe is linear regression and what is it used for?
2) Characteristics of a regression line
a. Identify the regression line of regression and its characteristics. What does each
term mean?
3) Example
a. The following assignment is about Linear Regression. This assignment contains
a scenario to help further understand what linear regression means. Here is the
context of the sample problem chosen: A student in a Geometry class and his
four friends argued that there is no relationship between hours of homework per
week, and class grade. The teacher publicly displayed an anonymous grade
sheet with data on the 20 students in this student's class plus their class grades.
They found the following data:
■ Student 1: 0 missing assignments, class grade: 5 (A)
■ Student 2: 10 missing assignments, class grade: 2 (D)
■ Student 3: 6 missing assignments, class grade 3 (C)
■ Student 4: 2 missing assignments, class grade 4 (B)
■ Student 5: 0 missing assignments, class grade 5 (A)
■ Student 6: 15 missing assignments, class grade 1 (F)
■ Student 7: 8 missing assignments, class grade 2 (D)
■ Student 8:1 missing assignments, class grade 5 (A)
■ Student 9: 2 missing assignments, class grade 4 (B)
■ Student 10 4 missing assignments, class grade 3 (C)
■ Student 11: 8 missing assignments, class grade: 2 (D)
■ Student 12: 0 missing assignments, class grade: 2 (D)
■ Student 13: 6 missing assignments, class grade 3 (C)
■ Student 14: 1 missing assignments, class grade 4 (B)
■ Student 15: 7 missing assignments, class grade 3 (C)
■ Student 16: 5 missing assignments, class grade 3 (C)
■ Student 17: 4 missing assignments, class grade 2 (D)
■ Student 18: 0 missing assignments, class grade 5 (A)
■ Student 19: 7 missing assignments, class grade 3 (C)
■ Student 20: 5 missing assignments, class grade 3 (C)
■ ** Use the data above and create an X and Y table under the
“Example”. Make sure to label the X and Y.**

4) Graph
a. Use the “Add Chart” feature on Prezi to insert X and Y tables and into google
sheets.
b. Make sure the graph includes:
■ A chart title
■ Correctly label X and Y
■ Display linear regression (trendline) on graph
5) Interpretation Statement
a. Using vocabulary learned from this lesson, create one sentence that describes
the regression line discovered under the “graph” square.
