"Motivation": Motivational Needs Theory
1. Innate Needs:
Innate needs are the needs that a person is born with a physiological
(biogenic) in nature, and include all the factors that are required for the
maintenance of the physical life, and are considered as the basic needs and
motivations.. Nestle is one of the giant in food technology. Research and
development is the basic Step of Nestle in quality assurance. They focus on
quality in three dimensions: health, sensory pleasure, and be socially
applicable. This helps them to provide nutritious, tasty meals, which are of
value and are important to the cultural aspects. Over the years, they have
confirmed their commitment to improvement. Helping their customers live
longer, healthier, and more productive lives, regardless of their age, gender, or
socio-economic status. Nestle has been driving change in the food industry,
since it has been a leading food corporation, in terms of having a large
research and development base in food.science and nutrition. Nestle have
unique skills to offer products that consumers will help to live a good life.
Nestlé has the world's largest food and nutrition research organization, with 21
research centers and more than 5,000 employees working.This provides Nestle
with a competitive advantage.Different Nestle brands have benefited from the
active ingredients developed by Nestle research and with over 130 years of
experience, consumers know they are provided with the best quality when they
select a Nestle brand.
2.Acquired Needs:.
Acquired needs theory applies on individuals needs and categorize them into
three motivating functions which include, need for achievement, power and
affiliation.
i) Achievement
Nestle functions and sells its products in 190 countries, targeting almost the
entire world.Nestle does not rely on any single country or a few different
countries to earn most of its revenue.Nestle Company has been practicing
training and team building programs to enhance the knowledge and skills of
their valuable employees through setting high anticipation and providing
employees with the right tools to complete one of the most important facets of
motivation, which is the need for achievement. Too meet the demands of their
employees , Nestle has programmed specially designed training activities where
all the workers will have to go through special training activities, practically
with more experienced co-workers. Additionally, the training activities provided
is not a one shot deal. Nestle Company have idea that an ongoing program not
only makes for more valuable employees, it can also help employee retention.
ii) Power
Nestle have a powerful brand identification.By having possession of many
household names, such as Nescafe, KitKat, MilkPak,Milo, CoffeeMate,
Maggi, not to mention other local products, Nestle has its presence in more
than 90% of households globally. Nestle has around 400 factories in more than
190 countries worldwide, they can transfer their manufacturing processes from
one factory to another if there is a problem in a certain region without causing
any large disruption in the supply chain.Nestle establishes itself in a broad
range of food segments. Nestle have more than 2000 brands globally and
renovated over 8000 products for nutrition and health considerations,
according to its Annual Review 2017. It is one of the worlds’ largest
companies with the widest product portfolio.Nestle has a remarkable
opportunity to boost its e-commerce sites and online shopping platform and
Strategic alliances with other food and beverage giants are also a great
opportunity for the company to increase its revenues and profits and to have
more power in the industry.
I. iii) Affiliation
Nestle caters to the needs of different customers across all age-sets with
different products. For example, while the Nestle targets Milo for children, it
offers Nescafe to adult consumers,most Nestle products are for everyone, from
infant to seniors and all genders,families can purchase Lactogen 1 and 3 for
babies under 12 months, Cerelac for those under 1 year, and Nido for 2-year
old children.Nestle have engaged 340000 odd global workforce who are
continuously working to make its products available in every nook & corner of
the world.Nestle Company has also utilized the training and team building
programs to provide other need of their employees which is the need for
affiliation. As the training and team building programs requires the employees
to work together as a whole in serving the customers, a close and friendly
relationship can be established among the employees when there is
communication and interaction. Consequently, the employees will feel a sense
of involvement and belonging within the Nestlé Company by participating in
pleasant social activities and enjoying shared activities together.Nestle is
associated in partnerships with a number of major companies, such as Coca-
Cola, and several others, opening doors of opportunities for the company. So
having affiliation with other food giants will benefit Nestle in further growth.
