Power shafts

Removing the front drive shafts

Note: (models with ABS) after disconnecting the drive shaft and the hub, take care not to
damage the teeth of the rotor of the speed sensor on the drive shaft.
PIC 1
1. Poddokratte the car, remove the front wheel.
2. Remove the lower motor protection.

3. (Mechanical transmission)
Drain the gear oil. (Automatic transmission)
Drain the working fluid.

4. Unscrew the lock nut.


a) Remove the cotter pin and the cap: locknuts.
b) Unscrew the locknut when the brake pedal is depressed.

5. (Models with ABS)

Remove the speed sensor

6. Disconnect a tip of steering draft.

a) Remove the cotter pin and unscrew the nut.b) Using a puller, detach the tip of the steering
rod from the left-hand fist,,

7. Disconnect the knuckle.


a) Remove the bolt and the two nuts.

b) Disconnect the steering knuckle from the lower ball joint.
8. Using a plastic hammer, detach the drive shaft from the hub. Note: Be careful not to damage
the drive shaft cover and gland.
9. Remove the left drive shaft.
a) Disconnect the left drive shaft as shown. Note: Be careful not to damage the dust cover and
the gearbox.

b) Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring.

10. Remove the right drive shaft.


(4A-PE, 5A-PE, 2C (2N)) a) Disconnect the drive shaft as shown.

11. The bearing of the hub can be damaged if the weight of the vehicle acts on it, for example,
when the vehicle is moved with the drive shaft removed.

Therefore, if there is a need to move the vehicle with the drive shaft removed, first secure the
hub bearing, as shown in the figure.

Removing the rear drive shafts


1. Remove the rear wheel.
2. Unscrew the lock nut.
a) Remove the cotter pin and the lock nut cap.
b) Unscrew the locknut when the brake pedal is depressed.
3. (Models with ABS)

Remove the speed sensor.

4. Remove the drive shaft.

a) Mark the output shaft of the differential and the drive shaft.

b) Unscrew the four nuts and disconnect the drive shaft from the output shaft of the differential.

c) Using a hammer and a copper rod, knock out the drive shaft from the hub.

d) Remove the drive shaft. Note: when removing the shaft, do not damage the teeth of the rotor of the speed sensor
on the drive shaft.

5. The bearing of the hub can be damaged if the weight of the vehicle acts on it, for example,
when the vehicle is moved with the drive shaft removed.
Therefore, if you need to move the car with the drive shaft removed, first secure the hub
bearing, as shown in the figure.

Disassembly of power shafts
1. Check the drive shaft.
a) Check that there is no gap in the outer hinge.
b) Check that the inner hinge slides smoothly in the direction of the axial pressure.
c) Check that there is no noticeable radial clearance in the inner hinge.
d) Check the integrity of the covers.

2. Remove the hinge covers.


a) Unscrew the two clamps of the covers.

b) Remove the covers.

3. Disconnect a holder of the internal hinge, preliminary having put adjusting labels on a holder
and a power shaft.

Note: do not apply the installation marks with a sharp object.

4. Remove the triple hinge. a) Remove the snap ring.

b. Apply the alignment marks to the drive shaft and the triple hinge. Note: do not apply the
installation marks with a sharp object.

d) Using a copper rod and a hammer, remove the triple hinge from the drive shaft.
Attention: do not drop the hinge when removing.

5. (4А-FЕ, 5А-FЕ, 2С (2WD)) Remove the damper of the front drive shaft.
a) Remove the clamp.

b) Remove the damper and yoke of the drive shaft.

6. Remove the hinge covers.


Attention: do not disassemble the outer hinge.
a) Remove the two clamps.
b) Remove the covers from the shaft.
c) Remove the covers and two yokes from the drive shaft.

Replacing the anther and retaining ring of the front drive shafts

1. Replacement of anther,

a) Using a screwdriver, remove the dust cover.

6) Press in the new anther.

2 (Except for the right drive shaft 48-PE) Replace the snap ring,
a) Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring.

b) Install a new snap ring.

Assembling the power shafts

1. Installation of covers and clamps.


a) Install the parts on the front left drive shaft and the rear drive shafts in the following stock:
- a cover of the external hinge,
- four clamps,
- a cover of the internal hinge,
Note: before installing the cover, wrap the tape around the splines of the drive shaft to prevent
damage to the cover.

Rear power shaft.


b) Install the parts on the front right drive shaft in the following order:
- a cover of the external hinge,
- two clamps,
- damper (4А-РЕ, 5А-ЕЕ),
- the damper clamp (4А-РЕ, 5А-РЕ),
- two clamps,
- a cover of the internal hinge.

2. Install the triple hinge. a) Align the marks on the shaft and ball-nir.

b) Using a copper rod and a hammer, press the triple ball-nut onto the drive shaft.

c) Install a new snap ring on the shaft.

3. Establish a holder of the internal hinge.
a) Put the grease in the cage and the hinge.
Note: When assembling, use a lubricant designed only for hinges.
The amount of lubricant ........... 180 -190 gr.
b) Align the marks on the cage and drive shaft.

4. Install the inner hinge pockets.


a) Install the inner hinge cover.
Note: do not apply grease to the groove of the outer ring, to the place where the cover is
installed.
b) Using a screwdriver, install the two clamps on the inner hinge cover.

c) Tighten the clamps. Note: do not damage the cover.

5. Install the outer hinge cover.


a) Put grease in the cover and on the shaft of the hinge.
Note: When assembling, use a lubricant designed only for hinges.
The amount of grease ................................ 120 -130 g.
b) Install the cover on the shaft bore.
Note: do not damage the cover.
c) Install the two clips on the cover.

d) Tighten the clamps.
6. (4A-PE, 5A-PE, 2C (2WD), 35-PE (4WD) right drive shaft) Install the dampers of the front
drive shafts.
a) Install the damper in the shaft groove.
Note: do not confuse the installation.
Nominal distance:
4A-PE, 5A-PE…………………………….426.6 to 436.6 mm

Install the clamps on the damper,

7. Check the drive shaft.

Installing the front drive shafts


1. Install the left drive shaft.

a) Lubricate the dispensing handle with a working part of the inner hinge.

b) Install the drive shaft. Note:

- Before installation, rotate the locking ring on the drive shaft downwards.
- do not damage the oil seal.

2) 2. Install the right drive shaft.

a) Lubricate the working part of the inner hinge with oil in the transfer case.
b) Install the drive shaft. Note:
- Before installation, rotate the locking ring on the drive shaft downwards.
- do not damage the oil seal.

3. Connect the drive shaft to the machine.
Note: Be careful not to damage the internal seal.

4. Connect the steering knuckle to the lower arm.
Torque nuts and bolts ……………………………………130 Nm

5. Connect the tip of the steering rod.
a) Connect the tip of the steering rod to the steering knuckle and tighten the nut.
Tightening torque ........................ 49 Nm
c) Install a new cotter pin. Note: If the holes for the cotter pin do not match, then tighten the nut
to a small angle.

6. (Models with АВ8)
Establish the gauge of frequency of rotation. Tightening torque…………………….. 8 Nm

7. Tighten the locknut.


a) Wrap the lock nut. Torque -. 210 Nm
b) Install the cotter pin and cap . lock nuts.

8. (Mechanical transmission) Fill the transmission oil in the gearbox. (Automatic transmission)
Fill the working fluid.
9. Establish the bottom protection of the engine.
10. Install the front wheel and lower the car. Tightening torque ...................... 103 Nm
11. Check the mounting angles of the front wheels.

Installation of rear drive shafts


1. Install the drive shaft.
a) Install the drive shaft in the wheel hub. Note: do not damage the drive shaft covers.

b) Align the setting marks on the output shaft of the differential and the drive shaft.

c) Tighten the four fastening nuts. Tightening torque................. 70 Nm

2. (Models with AB8)
Install the speed sensor. Tightening torque mounting bolt ........................ 20 Nm

3. Wrap the lock nut,
a) Wrap the lock nut. Tightening torque …………………………220 N.-m

b) Install the cotter pin and the lock nut cap.

4. Install the wheel. Torque mounting bolts ........................... 105 Nm
