Power Shafts: Removing The Front Drive Shafts
Power Shafts: Removing The Front Drive Shafts
Power shafts
Note: (models with ABS) after disconnecting the drive shaft and the hub, take care not to
damage the teeth of the rotor of the speed sensor on the drive shaft.
PIC 1

5. (Models with ABS)
a) Remove the cotter pin and unscrew the nut.b) Using a puller, detach the tip of the steering
rod from the left-hand fist,,
PIC 5
b) Disconnect the steering knuckle from the lower ball joint.
8. Using a plastic hammer, detach the drive shaft from the hub. Note: Be careful not to damage
the drive shaft cover and gland.
9. Remove the left drive shaft.
a) Disconnect the left drive shaft as shown. Note: Be careful not to damage the dust cover and
the gearbox.
PIC 6
PIC 2
Removing the front with water shafts. 1 - the drive shaft (right), 2 - the locking ring, 3 - the drive
shaft (left), 4 - the cotter pin, 5 - the tip of the steering rod, 6 - the speed sensor, 7 - the cotter
pin, 8 - the counter nut cap, 9 - a lock nut, 10 - a cover of the bottom protection of the engine, 11
- an O-ring seal.
PAGE 198
b) Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring.
Therefore, if there is a need to move the vehicle with the drive shaft removed, first secure the
hub bearing, as shown in the figure.
PIC 8
a) Mark the output shaft of the differential and the drive shaft.
b) Unscrew the four nuts and disconnect the drive shaft from the output shaft of the differential.
PIC 10
PIC 7
Rear power shaft. 1 - the nut, 2 - the drive shaft assembly, 3 - the speed sensor, 4 - the lock nut
cap, 5 - the cotter pin, 6 - the lock nut, 7 - the inner ring) the hinge, 8 - the retaining ring, 9,10 -
the clamp, 11 - chelo, 12 - yoke, 13 - triple hinge, 14 - cover, 15 - drive shaft with external hinge.
PAGE 199
c) Using a hammer and a copper rod, knock out the drive shaft from the hub.
PIC 1
d) Remove the drive shaft. Note: when removing the shaft, do not damage the teeth of the rotor of the speed sensor
on the drive shaft.
PIC 2
5. The bearing of the hub can be damaged if the weight of the vehicle acts on it, for example,
when the vehicle is moved with the drive shaft removed.
Therefore, if you need to move the car with the drive shaft removed, first secure the hub
bearing, as shown in the figure.
PIC 3
Disassembly of power shafts
1. Check the drive shaft.
a) Check that there is no gap in the outer hinge.
b) Check that the inner hinge slides smoothly in the direction of the axial pressure.
c) Check that there is no noticeable radial clearance in the inner hinge.
d) Check the integrity of the covers.
PIC 4
3. Disconnect a holder of the internal hinge, preliminary having put adjusting labels on a holder
and a power shaft.
b. Apply the alignment marks to the drive shaft and the triple hinge. Note: do not apply the
installation marks with a sharp object.
PIC 9
d) Using a copper rod and a hammer, remove the triple hinge from the drive shaft.
Attention: do not drop the hinge when removing.
5. (4А-FЕ, 5А-FЕ, 2С (2WD)) Remove the damper of the front drive shaft.
a) Remove the clamp.
PIC 10
b) Remove the damper and yoke of the drive shaft.
PIC 6
Disassembly of the front drive shafts. 1,2) clamp, 3 - damper (for right drive shaft), 4 - clamp (for
right drive shaft), 5 - clamp, 6 - triple hinge, 7 - retaining ring, 8 - bellow, 9 - 10, 11 - clamp, 12 -
inner hinge ring, 13 - retaining ring, 14 - shaft with external hinge assembly, 15 - damper, 16 -
retaining ring, 17 - bearing, 18 - bearing holder, 19, 22 - anther, 20 - a lock ring, 21 - a pin.

Replacing the anther and retaining ring of the front drive shafts
1. Replacement of anther,
PIC 2
2 (Except for the right drive shaft 48-PE) Replace the snap ring,
a) Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring.
PIC 3
b) Install a new snap ring.
PIC 7
PIC 8
PIC 9
d) Tighten the clamps.
6. (4A-PE, 5A-PE, 2C (2WD), 35-PE (4WD) right drive shaft) Install the dampers of the front
drive shafts.
a) Install the damper in the shaft groove.
Note: do not confuse the installation.
Nominal distance:
4A-PE, 5A-PE…………………………….426.6 to 436.6 mm
PIC 10
Install the clamps on the damper,
a) Lubricate the dispensing handle with a working part of the inner hinge.
