One of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is the "Zero Hunger," the SDG #2. The main
goal of this SDG is to eliminate hunger, have secure food for the people, and to sustain our agriculture by
2030. In order to achieve this goal, the majority's help is a must which signifies that everyone of us should
help and contribute to make it possible. After all, our country, Philippines, is on Asia which is one of those
continents who are experiencing severe hunger together with Africa. This problem seems to rise again due
to the pandemic that affected everyone around the globe.
According to United Nations, approximately 1 out of 9 people in the world were malnourished in 2017,
and it reaches 821 million people in total. This is significantly higher compared to 784 million people in
2015. Furthermore, children are the most critical that were affected. Even though stunting is decreasing
since 2000, there are still approximately 149 million children that are stunted, 49 million children are
wasted, and 40 million children are overweight. As far as we know, children should be healthy physically
and mentally because we believe that they are always the future of humanity. In addition, the
contribution of the agricultural sector the economy has declined by 37% which is also one of the main
contributors to the problem.
These problems are very alarming for us, and we should act as soon as possible. With the help of our
government, we can strengthen the adaptive capacity of the small-scale and family farmers, which will
play a vital role in resolving this problem. With that said, it is clear that the higher officials or the
government are the key players in the agricultural part. However, when it comes to people's food supplies
and hunger, especially the children, we can already contribute to this matter. As a student, even if I
cannot implement significant solutions, I believe I can still contribute even the small things. One of which
is about valuing our foods. Ever since I have learned to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner independently, I am
always very strict with my food. I don't like leaving a leftover on my plate after eating, and I often feel sad

whenever I see someone leaving a leftover in the fast foods or restaurants. I suggest that if they cannot
finish their food, they should pack their leftovers and give them to the street children who are in hunger
or nothing to eat. In addition, we should always learn to compute or estimate the food supplies that we
are buying in the market or groceries. Sometimes we tend to buy too many supplies, and the excess foods
will just be expired to our food storages. These mistakes are just minor to some people, especially those
who are wealthy, but to the hungry people and our agricultural sector, it is a big deal that affects them
drastically. That's why we always need to remember that we should consume wisely, not just for the sake
of ourselves but also for others.
