Cases on Financial Technology (Fin-Tech)

CASE
Tamanna is a volunteer. She works for an organization. During the pandemic, she works very
hard. Being a university student, she has not enough cash with her always but she never gave
up when it comes to helping other. As Schools are completely shut down during the first phase
of lockdown, back to 2020, Tamanna started a school for under privileged students near her
house with 500 students. Everything went fine, but when Covid attacks those guardians who
eat hand to mouth they give the negative signal to Tamanna and most of the parents strictly
prohibited their children to not to join the class anymore because when they can’t earn, they
can’t eat how do they survive? So, when you have food you can try other things. Tamanna
Understand the problems and broke her piggy bank just to feed those helpless people. Tamanna
took the charge of those people and every day she buys the necessity things for those helpless
people. But how many days? after few days, Tamanna understood she is running out of cash
but the number of hunger people are increasing day by day. She didn’t understand what to do.
On the other hand, Tamanna wants to help the affected people of Israeli-Palestinian conflict
which is one of the world’s most enduring conflicts, but as a Bangladeshi resident, she can’t
do anything. So again, he falls in a problem.

BKASH ACHE (বিকাশ আছে)

Bkash is the fastest and safest medium of financial transaction, Bkash makes your life simple
with send money, add money, pay bill, mobile recharge, payment and many more services.
Possible Solution: For both the problems Tamanna used Bkash as a medium of Fintech. By
definition we know fintech or financial technology is the technology and innovation that aims
to compete with traditional financial methods in the delivery of financial services. It’s an
emerging industry that uses technology to improve activities in finance.
In the case, Tamanna use Bkash as a medium of fintech, because she thought she has a Bkash
so why will be she tensed about the money she needed for the underprivileged people. She
posted a status in Facebook “If anyone willing to donate something, please do, I will buy some
daily groceries for this type of family.” The response was overwhelming. She gets more than
her necessity and run the school and the family of those children.
Her another problem is also solved by Bkash. When smoke and flames rise in Gaza during
Israeli attacks, Tamanna donated fund through Bkash and also inspired others to do it.
SWOT analysis of Bkash: During helping others Tamanna finds out some strength, weakness,
opportunities and threats of Bkash. They are given below:
Strength:
1.Under the big wing of Brac bank, Bkash is the first money mobile financial service provider
of Bangladesh.

2
2.Using the strong and wide mobile network of four giant mobile operating company (Robi,
Grameenphone, Banglalink, Airtel), Bkash offer their service to the wide range of customer of
Bangladesh market.
3. Bkash is market leader of mobile transfer service at this moment.
Weakness:
1.Lack of local agent is a big weakness of Bkash. They only have 1600 authorized field agent
throughout Bangladesh.
2.The company do not provide any kind of security to the field agent so the local business
person does not feel secured to take the agency of Bkash.
Opportunity:
1.Online shopping is gaining popularity in Bangladesh so if the company can offer the
transaction system for online shopping, which could be the way of earning big profits.
2.As the company has joint ventures with two large international money transfer company,
Bkash could offer international transaction service in more extensive way.
Threat:
1.Poor security facility
2.There are some other financial services offer the similar services, if the company can’t take
the necessary steps to defense the competition than they will have threat of losing the top
position in the market.
Tamanna is happy because she has raised fund, donated fund and she will do the same for
future and every dream of her fulfilled only for Bkash, she could use another service but she
knew most of the people uses Bkash in Bangladesh and that’s way at the end of the day she
finds contentment by helping others through Bkash.
