PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST

E09H - Automatic Transfer Switch

SAFETY & SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1. This procedure shall performed by an electrician / generator technician.
2. Make arrangements with post for power outage as required.
3. Conduct lock-out / tag-out procedures. Never take anyone’s word that it’s off, check !
4. Use proper hand protection when performing this inspection.
5. Follow instructions in manufacturer's operation and maintenance manual.
6. If the answer to a PM task is NO, briefly explain WHY NOT.
Notes: This checklist is intended as a Reminder and a Record. Some tasks may not apply to the unit you are maintaining.
Replaceable or refillable items were not replaced or refilled unless noted in the Comment Column.

Data Entry: Tab to the next field. Shift Tab to the previous field. Enter or Space to check a box. Use semicolon, not comma.

21. Preventive Maintenance Procedures: (Continued) Check Record Readings / Comments / If
Y/N No, Why
iii. Check tightness of all control and power connections.
iv. Perform manual transfer operation with no connection to load.
v. Ensure manual transfer warnings are attached and visible to operator.
B. ELECTRICAL TESTS:
i. Perform a contact resistance test* or measure millivolt drop across all
main contacts. As an alternate, an infrared scan may be performed for
both the normal and emergency loads.
* Determine contact resistance in microhms. Investigate any value
exceeding 500 microhms or any values which deviate from adjacent
poles by more than fifty percent (50%).
ii. Verify settings and operation of control devices in accordance with
the owner/user's specifications for, voltage and frequency sensing
relays, all time delay relays, and engine start and shutdown relays.
C. Perform the following automatic transfer tests:

i. Simulate loss of power

ii. Return to normal power.
iii. Simulate loss of emergency power.
iv. Simulate all forms of single-phase conditions.
D. Monitor and verify correct operation and timing of the following:
i. Normal voltage sensing relays.
ii. Engine start sequence.
iii. Time delay upon transfer.
iv. Alternate voltage sensing relays.
v. Automatic transfer operation.
vi. Interlocks and limit switch function.
vii. Time delay and retransfer upon normal power restoration.
viii. Engine cooldown and shutdown feature.
